They are going to get 70% of each province immunized, limit travel to within the province, and expand province by province. Other areas like Pattaya and Hua Hin will probably be in the October opening.Bangkok will probably be later.

You will have to show proof of immunization and the get the “ all clear “ certificate issued within 72 hours of departure.

Which is what, a negative test?

If you need this, what’s the point of showing immunization?

It's kind of looks like this will be the international norm. You show that you have had the immunization AND provide a negative test taken within 72 hours of departure.

I’m not sure why there’s any hand wringing about this...
go get the free shot, and get a test right before you leave

it’s not that big a deal.
I went and got chipped today it took about four minutes in and out

It sure is a hell of a lot better than not being able to travel internationally, right? I’ve already missed a trip to Greece and Argentina. Im about to burst.

I don't know if it will be the norm to get vaccine AND test.

Most of the countries I'm following are allowing you to bypass testing with proof of vaccination. East Asia has basically adopted zero COVID so they will be outside the norm IMO.

As for Thailand, I like Bangkok so that being off limits would be lame. I also think it's weird you can visit Pattaya on the mainland but not Bangkok. How's that going to stop anything?

FYI Greece says they will allow vaccinated travelers in May. Like Croatia about 1/5 of their economy relies on tourism so they'll do what it takes. Croatia has already changed their rules to allow vaccinated travelers on April 1, though one quirk is you need to have paid accomodations as well.

All of these countries are spiking now and increasing restrictions but maybe with summer and getting off their asses they will be in decent shape come summer. Interestingly enough, their per capita cases are lower than our December/January peak and I feel like we remained relatively open and personally unconcerned, so I figure if I'm vaccinated I'd still go unless the restrictions are terrible.

How it should be IMO. Just got the vaccine yesterday and while it's kicking my butt today, I am not getting a test. Haven't gotten one yet and I won't in regards to traveling

Ya, I did a late edit regarding zero COVID countries in Asia and South Pacific. They will be the outliers and last to allow people in, as they can't afford cases late in the game politically.

I suspect they will be the vaccine AND test countries and outliers.

Yeah and when their tourism numbers are garbage compared to the ones with just the vaccine they'll open up with a quickness

I don't think so. It's relatively obvious the northern hemisphere summer is out for them and they seem "ok" with it. Their choice I suppose.

Australia just gave up on October goal of vaccinated population. Japan just started and has less than 1% vaxxed.

Funny enough, right now the US is a test country. I hope that changes soon so I don't have to test to get back this summer.

This summer its Latin/South America, parts of Africa or southern Europe/Balkans IMO.

Only reason I’d consider getting the vaccine is to travel, but I’m not doing that until closer to a trip. Who knows what else these morons will require e.g. vaccine with 6 months

But its absolutely fricking stupid to require both, should be one or the other.

Ya I have a trip for Croatia with a day in Istanbul I pushed back to early July and I'm holding firm. Wife and I are one dose in.

My brother is scheduled for Switzerland and is convinced they'll open for tourism money but if you follow European restrictions they still close schools, etc. when cases rise. Ie they are equivalent to our more restrictive US states and I wouldn't count on them. I wouldn't bet on Schengen area at all. Can't convince him to do the smart thing.

I feel like pushing through because domestic trips look like a shitshow of being crowded everywhere.

I've been tested for COVID once so I could see Dave Chappelle!

Right on cue Teddy, my son who is stoic by nature calls me almost desperate to see the doctor because he has never been this sick at 3:00, I gave him the insurance information and I just got the call that he has Covid. I drank from his cup Sunday and I am scheduled to get the first vaccination in the morning. . So freakin weird.

Almost a shame to get it this late in the game. Hope y'all don't have too shitty of a time with it. COVID or not you gotta take care of yourself when real sick.

Hopefully he got it after Sunday so you can squeeze by.
