A Malasada from Leanard's bakery is a must eat for sure. The day you do Pearl Harbor I suggest stopping at Nico's Pier 38 for lunch before heading back to Hawaii.Snorkeling at Hanama Bay is fun as well...I would suggest booking with a small tour company that offers early access before it gets too crowded and is open to the general public.

It was 50ft surf this week
Hopefully you will see a swell. If not Waimea is the most mellow or Turtle Bay which has a great restaurant on the beach as well

Have you looked into what is open? Hawaii is shut down as much as anyone right? I wouldn't be surprised if the Pearl Harbor stuff is not open but I have no idea? There's tons to do but I'd make sure things are open first.
Waikiki is a man made beach BTW, a lot of the beaches in hawaii are actually. That's why oahu has so many beaches compared to the other islands.
A trip to the north shore to Matusmoto shave ice and to see the huge waves this time a year is a must. Its likely not going to be swimmable most places on the north shore right now. Waimea has two breaks, one way off shore for surfers and one right on the beach.

Well yea... haha. You have to test negative to go... so I guess thats loosened them up. Theyre not nearly as locked down as California and some other states...

Yea I plan on renting a car a day or two and going up that way and checking out as much as possible. North shore down the East side. Would love to see the notorious waves.... I thought the 20fters off the point in Cabo were great...so 50ft will be a treat.

quote:yes, but this is the busy high season there. All the surf competitions happen around this time. We spent a day, once, at Waikiki. Crowded and nothing special. North Shore is a whole other deal. I've been 3 times, only went to Waikiki on the first trip. No real desire to go back, but that's just me. Urban, crowded environment is way down on my list to things to do. The North Shore is really laid back. I highly suggest going to Waimea Valley on the North Shore. The Polynesian Cultural Center is kinda over rated, IMO. One thing that I did on my last trip, that was truly awesome, was the powered hang-gliders at the airstrip on the North Shore. The couple that went with us, didn't think they wanted to do it, but when we got there and saw how cool it was, they wanted to. Unfortunately, they were booked up and no slot was available.

Not sure what you mean by mellow but Waimea is not a place to plan to swim in the winter time. In the summer its often flat and glassy and great swimming. In the winter there's a huge shore break that is dangerous as shite. Definitely go, its an amazing place. I'm just saying I don't want people to expect to swim in calm conditions. The shore break is impressive at times, standing on the beach looking at waves over your head.

Lani Kai is the best beach on the Island. Also, do the Pill Box hike in that neighborhood. Rent a boat and go out in Kaneohe Bay. Kayak out to the Mokes. Hike Koko Head. My favorite hike is the Pali Puka, but I wouldn't do that unless you are going with someone who is experienced with that hike. As others have said, drive out to the north shore.

I would spend at least 1 day driving around the island to get a lay of the land and just checking out the beautiful landscape, and making stops along the way.
From the city, I stopped at Lanikai Beach on the Eastern Shore, drove up to the Northshore/Haleiwa, and finished the day on the west side of the Island (there's a few resorts and beaches out there).

Depends if there is a swell
The shorebreak isn't raging like that without a swell

OP definitely do this. The last day my wife and I were on Oahu we rented a jeep and drove around the island and stopped at 4 different beaches which were all different and also stopped at a waterfall. Will never forget that day. Everything was a postcard is the best way to put it.

That's what we did when we went last year. We alternated resort days and adventure days. We were on the big island and used the Shaka Guide app. It was very well done. You pick the driving tour you want take and then press play to start the tour. He narrates, giving local history of where you are driving and navigates you from spot to spot. I highly recommend it. We did every tour on the island and felt that was the best way to fit seeing everything while we were there.
