Howdy baws, thinking about taking the wife (no pics) for a few days out to Bandera. I've always wanted to go see The Pecos High Bridge and Judge Roy Beans saloon. For anyone whose been do you recommend it?

From Bandera figure we'd hit Hondo, Uvalde, and Bracketville. It's my understanding Alamo Village is closed but I'd happy take recommendations for things to see or do. Thanks

Lost Maples is a nice park but the maples wont have leaves this time of year. The drive on FM 337 between Vanderpool and Leakey is pretty spectacular. The Frio river is great for tubing, but not this time of year. Not much in Bracketville or Bandera for that matter. Closer to San Antonio, Boerne (Burny) is a nice town with 3 or 4 breweries downtown.

Take Hiway 36 out of Bandera for a beautiful drive and a trip back to the 1960's. Lots of hole in the wall places on this route.

Great area and beautiful part of Texas. Not sure how active you guys are, but Garner State Park is a great place for a hike and picnic lunch

As already stated, there are some beautiful drives that way. We go to Leakey every year for Memorial Day week, but we usually take the San Antonio, to Castroville to Hondo to Leakey route going. Then coming back we go Leakey to Vanderpool to Tarpley to Bandera route.

Leakey Drug in Leakey is a nice restaurant that has popped up and sustained the last few years. For nostalgia, we like to stop at Mac and Ernie's in Tarpley. It was on the original episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

I agree with above, that the landscape and activities dont really lend themselves for winter trips especially after a freeze that nuked any vegetation. Any other time, its beautiful especially if its not in drought.

Bent Rim Grill in Leakey is a large biker bar with pretty good food. Drive the 3 Sisters while there.

Great area. Not too far from Kerrville, TX. Bigger town and more to do. Can always hop over to Fredericksburg for wine tours.
