I am thinking of using Trainline to book my high speed rail tickets for April trip to Italy. Does any one have any experience using them or other sites?
Tried a couple of times to use the Italo website and it booted me out both times.

I use Trenitalia for train tickets in Italy and it has always worked out fine.

I typically use Omio and have had zero issues.

April trip to Italy.

We never booked train tickets more than a day ahead of time in Italy. Bought them the day of travel at the station most days.

Yeah no reason to book this far ahead that I know of OP. That way you can more easily change your plans if need me, unless you are booking a prime time to a large event I'd wait until a week out or less.

That's fine for regional trains, but you will pay more for the long distance trains doing that.

We took the privately-owned Italo trains as opposed to state-owned Trenitalia, and I booked ours through their site. I don't remember any issues doing so, but I might have forgotten. Check the Seat61 site for all of the info you need about booking trains in Italy. I don't think I've ever used third party sites booking trains in Europe, but I've used Seat61 for advice in doing so.

^^exactly that. Seat61 will have great advice on which routes and lines to book ahead, and which ones are fine/same price as a walk-up ticket. Italy can be a bit confusing, as there are multiple rail lines operating. Some trains are fast, some super slow....doing a bit of research about which lines serve your destinations is a good thing. For short trips on slow/regular TrenItalia trains, or for very frequently traveled routes (like Rome to Florence), you can indeed walk up same day and buy a ticket from a machine.

I used Trainline this past year in France/Switzerland and I had no issues.

Tours>Bordeaux
Geneva>Lyon
Lyon>Avignon>Nimes>Lyon
Lyon>Paris

All went off without a hitch.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have four long distance rides to make. Rome- Naples
Naples- Florence
Florence- Milan
Milan- Rosenheim Germany
Wanted to be sure I did not end up not being able to get a ticket.
Also want to ride the high speed trains!!

It's much cheaper if you buy the tickets several months in advance. Trenitalia's site worked for me.

Rail Europe (fka Loco2) is another good option. You can purchase and manage tickets in the app.

Compare prices on all three though. They claim to have the same prices as if you were to buy direct from the train operator, but I’ve found on several occasions that the prices are all different so it’s worth comparing.

Rail Europe forgot to send me my ticket for Paris- Amsterdam once. Had to buy another ticket because I only noticed a couple of days before and customer service was horrible. That was 5 years ago though
