We (wife, 3 kids - 13-17 in age) are planning a trip early 2024 to England / France. We (I) want to plan the trip around a trip to Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-day. I anticipate stays in London and Paris and would like to do a trip thru the Chunnel.
Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, etc are appreciated. I need help with sites/services to use for planning the trip, etc.. Should we book a guide for Normandy? etc... - Any help is appreciated!

I was in Normandy in April 2019 shortly before the 75th anniversary. We spent several days in Bayeux and took the Overlord Tours tour of the D-Day beaches which I highly recommend.
The Chunnel Train (Eurostar) is definately the way to travel between London and Paris.

Totally agree with this. We were there shortly after the 75th anniversary and Bayeux is great. Overlord Tours is who we used and were not disappointed at all. Eurostar is the best way to get to/from London and Paris.

London is really easy if you use a CC but with that many you would need to buy the pass which gives you access to trains/tubes.
They have so much to see in London you would need at least a week to see it all.

Planning a similar trip but Paris/Brussels/Barcelona.

For those planning on doing Normandy as a day trip from Paris, I would recommend against that. It is very long. If you take the train you have to leave extremely early, get back late at night and probably take an abbreviated version of the tour. Private drivers from Paris cost a fortune.
Try to spend a few days in Bayeux. It is a nice place to visit. It was the only place around there that was not bombed during WWII so the Old Town and Cathedral are still intact. Mt. St. Michel is an easy day trip from there.

In London, do The Tower. But listen closely.
Buy the ticket for the earliest entry right when they open the gates. Tickets are based on entry time. GET THE FIRST ONE. Get there early, grab a coffee and pastry and get in line. The second they open the gate, haul arse straight to the back and see the Crown Jewels. DO NOT stop to look at anything. Just go straight to the Crown Jewels exhibit.
I did this and got to see the whole exhibit with a handful of people in the room and had time to read all the info. By the time I walked out, 30 mins later, there were lines that were an hour or more long. By beating that line, I had plenty of time for the rest of the tower. It's a great place.

Easy to take train from Paris to D-Day beaches. Yes, book a tour/ guide (research them ahead of time). They can pick up / drop off at small train station nearby. Having a Paris hotel near the right train station can be helpful. You'll be glad you went. Somebody else may have suggestion for longer Normandy tours.

If you are going for dday, to be honest I'd strongly consider a ferry ride. Get the entire Dday experience you know? Traveling by boat and all? Plus, you can travel closer to where you want to go, there's all kinds of ferries from England to France. There's only one Chunnel and while its not horribly far away its not super close to Normandy either. Just a thought.
I would make sure to obviously book WELL in advance. Things like hotels will fill up very quickly.
