Anyone been to this island? Considering heading to a Marriott property called French Leave resort in Feb. Didn’t know this island existed until I looked at a map.
Curious about amenities, pace, restaurants, etc. Resort room comes with a golf cart.

I’m pretty sure posters have and will chime in. My understanding is that it is amazing but not an island to go to if nightlife is your thing.

Went a few years ago. There is near zero to do after dark, not many restaurants, and very little tourist type outfits like dive shops, snorkel tours, parasailing, etc..
I remember passing by French Leave resort often, but didn't stop there, looked like one of the nicer places from the road. Not sure why you would need a golf cart though, the resort is small and I don't think I would get on Queens Hwy with it.
The island is a do-it-yourself type of place with amazing beaches and a laid back "out island" feel. OK snorkeling can be found from the beaches if that's your thing, but we didn't find any really good spots if you compare them to say any of the Virgin Islands.
We really did enjoy our stay, but we knew going in we would be visiting the entirety of the island, packing ice chest and lunches every day and driving around. Lighthouse beach at the extreme southern tip of the island was our favorite, crazy hard to get to though.

French Leave is nice.
Honestly though, Eleuthera is a place to go to get away from 'resorts'. It is a place to unplug from ordinary daily life and truly enjoy the act of exploring.
South end of the Island -- Lighthouse beach, and The Island School (Cape Eleuthera Foundation) are really cool places to visit.
North end -- Spanish Wells is a cool little island to explore and have some good food and meet some true original 'characters' of island living.
Everywhere in between has coves, bays, beaches and towns that are worth a once over. Rent a car, and if you see someone looking to hitch a ride, stop and pick them up. You'll come home with some good stories, guaranteed.

Sorry for thread hijack, but this should make anyone that has ever visited the place vomit a little bit.

Nice enough for Sidney Torres and Lenny Kravitz

We made it there in a rented old Dodge minivan. The time it took and riskiness of the "road" was part of the fun, but not sure I would tempt fate twice, so glad it didn't rain that day.

This is disturbing and sad. They will destroy the very thing that makes this place special. I hope their recent financial struggles makes them scrap the idea.

That's funny... our first trip to Lighthouse Beach was also in a Dodge minivan. It was supposed to have the motorized side door, but the owner told us that it no longer works. And he was right -- we had to manually open and close it the entire time we were there.
Except for our trip to Lighthouse beach. At least 4 different times, that motorized door decided to open and close itself after we hit a big bump. We laughed our asses off at that whole idea of off-roading in a possessed minivan.

It does make me want to vomit a little. Eluthera and Exuma are both (or either) places on my bucket list as they have some of the most gorgeous and untouched beaches in the world. I've done a reasonable amount of research on travelling there. Thinking of it as a cruise port...

If it is a cruise ship they tend to build a place and keep the horde there. Still, I have to see that on paradise. One of the cruise lines has done the same thing on White Bay, Jost van Dyke.
