Mainly things to do. Headed there in May. Room is booked at Sandals Emerald Bay, but the excursions offered by the resort don’t seem very appealing for the most part. I want to swim with the pigs and I’d like to hit Thunderball Grotto. Any other must sees/do’s? Any boat tours that hit multiple attractions in the same day? We’ll stay at the resort for the most part, but would like to get out and see the island for a day or two. Thanks for any input.

I've done the half-day (4 hours) tour with exumawatersports and I loved it. I highly recommend them. Their full day tour will take you to the Thunderball Grotto.

4 hours was just right for me because after 4 hours, law of diminishing returns kicked in and everything looked the same to me. Just like when I went to the Louvre museum, first couple hours were interesting but after that, you lose interest and every paintings starts to look pretty much the same.

Heading there in April. Renting a house and just plan on hitting the different beaches and renting a boat to hop around. Gonna pass on the pigs though....seems gross.

Should not pass on the pig tour, as it is not just pigs. Iguana islands, pigs, swimming in a grotto, compass cay with sharks, sand bar in the middle of the ocean, sea turtles (my favorite), etc. It is all spectacular. I could not recommend Aquadisiac any higher- incredible boat and captain (the owner).

Rent a boat that allows you to get out of the immediate area. Go island hopping and sandbar hopping. Go to Chat n Chill. Go to Santana's. The place is amazing.

I don't know if it is too late, but I would not do a resort. I would rent a house. The great thing about the Exumas is exploring. Even if you do Sandals, get away from the resort, rent a car, hit some secluded beaches, etc.

We stayed in Hartswell on Moriah Cay. Was amazing.

We did this as well. Thought it was a really good use of a day and Compass Cay was pretty sweet.

Not to hate on your vacation. Everyone should do what they love. But honestly, the best thing about the Out Islands of the Bahamas is the fact that you get to experience some truly untouched beaches and waters. Staying at resort in one of the most beautiful places on earth just seems wrong.

Get out and explore. Stop at road-side conch stands and get fresh made conch salad. Stop at a shack bar along the way to some random beach, have a cold Kalik and bullshite with some locals. Pick up a hitch-hiker and take him/her to where they are going (very common practice on the out islands).

Being spontaneous on the out islands is how you make memories and create fantastic stories to tell about your vacations.

To me, that is far better than, "This here's a picture of Judy when she got plastered on the all-you-can-drink pina coladas and ended up passing out by the pool."

We did the opposite. Rented a house for nearly 2 weeks and spent 1 of those days at Sandals, just for the day. Spent the remainder of the time exploring Exuma and small islands surrounding it.
I would recommend allotting more time for DYI time away from the resort, but that's just my opinion. A few in our group didn't do much exploring, they wanted to simply relax, but had a good time when they did get out. The people of Exuma are extremely friendly and the island has a low crime rate. The roads they do have a terrible (by our standards), the groceries are really expensive and hard to get at times, as the shipments only come twice a week to stock stores.

Try a tour to pig beach using one of the smaller outfits, the time spent with the pigs is only an hour or so, but they take you to a number of other attractions only accessible by boat. The smaller the boat, smaller the group, and the more they can customize the stops to do what your group wants.

There are lots of beaches with road access along Queens Hwy, and nearly all beaches, by law, are public, just need access. The out islands have some of the best beaches in all of the Caribbean, so spending your time there and only seeing one of them would be doing yourself a disservice.

We will be there at the same time! How did you book Aquadisiacs? All I can find online is an email address and they haven’t responded. I also emailed Sugars Adventures, which seems like a similar option, they responded but won’t guarantee a trip until they have a full boat.
