Depends on the trip. Caribbean beaches or Mexico, no way. To my FIL’s cabin in NC, totally. Always a mini van. Always through Costco.

It depends. I've rented to go on road trips to destinations, but with a large SUV/gas/hotels to sleep on the way, you're almost at the cost of flying.
So, if you want to experience the road trip I would say it's worth it.
I've also driven my own, both I don't like doing that consistently.
