Do you own or have you owned a RV?

Do you use it? Is it a pain to maintain? Do you find places to stay that are not cramped campgrounds?
Just curious. I don't know if I would like one or not.

Yes yes and yes and no. It is a pain but when it works its great . Deal is do not overbuy and storage and maintenance is a lot. Its kinda like a boat its a hole in the water. My wife and I like to travel and are older nearing retirement. Big plans. but going forward the grandkids love it so to answer your question you need to want it and accept to use it ...

Lived in a travel trailer full time for a few years, I must have gotten lucky because the only maintenance I did was patch a tire from running over a screw. It all depends on what you get and how you take care of it.
I also lived on opposite sides of the world between FL and WA, the north is packed during the summer and the south is packed during the winter. The worst thing about the pull behinds is the value they lose when you drive them off the lot. It depreciates much faster than a car.

We don't own, but we are considering it. We rent one at least once a year. It's significantly cheaper than hotel + car even with higher gas prices. Out west, i can almost always find a free place to park it with the abundance of BLM land available.

We rent 4 or 5 times a year. Much less to rent vs. own for me. With insurance, storage, maintaining, depreciation and the Guilt of not using more often, we just rent.

Thanks for the advice!!
I think we will rent for a few times if we decide to do it.

That’s great when the weather is perfect. But what about the rain, wind, or cold? You’d be very limited in when and where you can go.

You are an anomaly, most folks are either gung-ho towards them or dead-set against them.
Rent one for a couple of different trips and see.
Good luck.

I’ve owned several over the years when the kids were younger. Now we rent. Requires more planning but def the way to go. Most people you rent from prefer that you not tow it yourself. They will deliver and set it up for you. They are equipped with linens, dishes, pots pans , chairs etc
Just bring your clothes and food.

Any time I think of them, I get flashbacks to (1) seeing one overheated and broken down on a steep hill in Vicksburg National Cemetery and (2) seeing the whole family standing around and watching pops try to change a flat on one at a gas station in Arkansas.
I also laugh about the time a friend got to Talladega and discovered his lashed on freezer chest full of food was missing. Oh, that's what those people were waving and honking about back around Monroe.

I had a pull behind. Enjoyed it but was spending $90/month to store and I wasn't able to get many weekends off of work. Sold it and sometimes sorry I did. I will be retired in a couple of years and will be buying a diesel pusher and living in it and traveling around the country for a couple of years.

High depreciation. Pain in the arse to store (if you live in a subdivision) and maintain. Could be good if you are retired and want to see the country. If you aren't going to use it all the time, rent or just air bnb.
