Day trip to San Diego

We are staying in Dana Point and we have had a couple of beach days in Laguna this week. We were kicking around the idea of heading down to San Diego for a day trip and maybe go to La Jolla cove and shores. We may even hop on the Pacific Surfliner and ride down. Is it worth a trip down there or should we just do a different beach in Laguna, like 1000 steps beach?

Yeah we kayaked La Jolla, it was really cool, had seals in the caves.

Skip San Diego. Go to Carlsbad. The beaches are better and the downtown has just enough to do for a day trip.
