As an avid RV er i see them at every campground
2 weeks ago the guy by us was running his generator while he was hook up to
110 V
I went what the frick
He said he had no power and ac
I said did you try your main breaker ?
He didnt have a clue
Fliped it all was good

Point is there are more systems than on a boat
Make SURE you know all of them first

Water heaters and frig run on both gas and 110 V so it can be confusing

Then you have water, sewer , dirty and clean water tanks

Hidden valvesall over including propane for cooking

Do nOT let the sewer tank get full or you will have overflowing shite inside

Know before ya go !!!
And watch your tire pressures and temps

Geaux for it !!!

Dont rent one more than five years old
Age /year will be on the VIN to see how much they are lying !!

Family has had RVs forever so I am aware of alot. Daughter and son in law go all the time and we have been with them. Just thinking about trying before we buy (size particularly).

Used them in Phoenix and I was very satisfied. I don't really have any tips other than relaying one good experience. I ran it through a good bit of mud and the interior was very dusty (cab isn't airtight and I went on a dozen miles of forest service rd) but I caught no grief.

I have rented from the Kingwood location 3 or 4 times. The owner is a great guy and really helpful. Rented once in Baton Rouge it was uneventful. Your car insurance will cover the RV so you don't need their supplemental coverage. Let me know if you have any questions.

Yeah I have owned RVs for years. I just bought a brand new Grand Design 5th wheel this past Saturday. It's even different for me because the refrigerator is 12v and a solar trickle charge on the roof and I've only used the Dometic style 110v/LPG refrigerators.

It is a lot of fun. Renting one is probably a good way to figure out how to use one (there is definitely a learning curve). You see some off the wall stuff from some people that don't exactly know what to do. Like making sure you put about 5 gallons of water in your black tank before it starts getting used at the spot.

I’ve rented one, why would the location matter? It’s a pretty cut and dry franchise process in regards to the rental. I’m not sure the location would matter?

The cruise america ones are very nicely set up to be extremely easy and user friendly. No crazy nice amenities but more then adequate.

Our family of 5 was able to all shower on the 13 gallon tank by being quick and shutting off the water while soaping up. Hot water tank and black water tank size was originally a major concern but turned out to not be an issue. We did fill it one time though so do try to use the bathroom elsewhere if not hooked up.

My wife or I made lunch on the go, often times a hot lunch (not necessarily a recommendation safety wise) daily and having the restrooms on board was really nice while on the move with 3 kids.

ETA: in regards to age, I’m not sure if you’ll have any luck choosing that. I’ve rented 2 one had like 50k miles the other 130k. I was concerned about the 130k mile one but it worked well without any issues.

This is definitely not universal and you should check your policy before relying on it.

Absolutely correct. Mine definitely did not. The RV insurance is not expensive either and its basically toss the keys and go on your return. I don't normally recommend that sort of extra insurance, but if you haven't driven a large vehicle like that I think its absolutely a good idea.

I should have said to "check your Policy" first. I have rented RV's 20+ times in the last 8 years and all have taken my standard Allstate policy for RV coverage. If you are renting a 40+ footer with 3 axels you would need to have the supplemental insurance due to weight limitations of my standard auto policy. Cruise America has always accepted my Allstate policy. (16 times)

You should also check with Allsate.

Cruise America "taking it" and Allstate actually covering something are 2 different things as well.

I'm not saying you're wrong in your instance, just that the blanket statement that your auto covers an RV rental is wrong.

I checked with Allstate each time mom. Do you get the insurance when you rent a car from Budget, Enterprise or Avis? I don't because Allstate covers me. Yes I checked.

Totally different, also you were possibly giving really bad advice out.

Or really good advice if his auto policy covers the RV rental. Totally different? Exactly the same thing. Using an existing insurance policy to cover an asset you are renting.
Duh. What a bunch of putz's.

Personally, I compared Cruise America to RVShare and Outdoorsy. Ended up going with RVShare. Worked out pretty well, basically a mobile Airbnb type situation. Only issue we had was the propane alarm suddenly started going off randomly, even with the propane turned off. Ended up just disconnecting it, a little research into it looks like it needed replaced.

Outdoorsy is great if you get an owner that is good. Some folks on that site really don't want to rent their RV to strangers.

We used RVShare with no problems

I’d pick them over Cruise America just because of those annoying logos

It depends on what you want to do. Rent one for a football game in the south within 3-5 hours of home? Sure RVshare. There's no way I'm renting one to drive 10-20+ hours from a random person though. We took cruise america outwest and if we would have had an issue, not to mention on the weekend when the owner is who knows where, that would have been a major hassle.

There's another company, a quick google search is www.elmonterv.com that is very similar to cruise america but fewer franchises and much much smaller advertising.

There's still a deductible though with auto insurance. I take back what I said, they took my auto insurance also. But that's deductible and for liability. I think you have to use your own for liability.

The cruise america zero damage plan I paid for was $15/ night. If you do a 4 day weekend that's $60 only. Its not like renting a car where its $50/ day for the car and $50 / day for the rental insurance.

Plus, I had 3 kids so I was fairly positive we'd have broken something at least worth $100 and they ended up breaking the wood support for the overhead bed. It all really depends on the situation, but its really not expensive at all and I rarely say that.

Mine outsourced that, had an 800 number if anything went wrong. They actually came out to Zion to change a fuse while we were there.
