I'm headed to some meetings in New Orleans at the end of the month - Won't have a ton of free time, but will have a couple hours during the mornings, mid week. I think we're staying at the Sheraton on Canal St.
Haven't been to New Orleans in probably 20 years, and never really saw anything. What would yall suggest to see? Preferably just a walk to somewhere those mornings -

Just a couple of hours in the morning?
You could walk down Decatur Street to Cafe du Monde and have coffee and beignets.

Walk to Jackson Square and see the city wake up. Go to Cafe beignet on Royal Street.

Many people don't realize mornings and day drinking in New Orleans are a great time.
We just always leave when the sun starts going down.

When I'm in/near the quarter overnight, I like to start mornings early window-shopping Royal as the slate walks are hosed-off , then watch river traffic from the Moon Walk. Mena Palace at 200 Chartres has been my breakfast place for a very long time. It opens later now 7:30am. If you are by yourself, have breakfast at the bar. You don't have to drink...they don't care. Food is good with ample portions. Long ago it was Greek... a few food hints remain. LINK

Really good museums in the Quarter open early enough-- The Cabildo and The Presbytere (on either side of St. Louis Cathedral) each open at 9:00 AM; the Historic New Orleans Connection (520 Royal Street) opens at 9:30.
