Headed to Costa Rica in a month, with a group of about 7-8 people. Looking for suggestions regarding places to stay, things to do, stuff to see, etc.

We will be there for 7 days, and were thinking of staying in San Jose just two days (the day we land and the day we fly out). For the rest of the time we had loosely planned staying somewhere near the Pacific Coast.

Heading there in April - Manuel Antonio, Jaco & Arenal.

You’re going next month and don’t have places to stay? Planning to drive from SJO or fly elsewhere/bus?

What type of stuff are y’all looking for? Relaxing, fishing, adventure, nefarious things?

get a driver. Its like $100 a day for a driver and he will take you anywhere and act as a tour guide/interpreter. Its well worth the money.

Ive been to a few different places in costa rica but monteverde was my favorite. The ride up is awesome if you are a thrill seeker and the weather is perfect up there.

You're going in a month and don't have a place to stay?
I'd fix that now, before you go.

Yeah this trip was kind of rushed, we bought plane tickets this past weekend and are now in the process of finding AirBnBs ... but we aren’t sure which part of the country we want to see yet, which is why I came to ask.

There for about 7 days, want to spend 1-2 in San Jose, 2-3 on the Pacific Coast / Beach ... and then open to whatever for the rest of the time.

Rafting, Ziplining, ATV’s sound like they may fill the rest of our time.

We are a group of graduate students, aged 23-26 ... looking to balance some time chilling at the beach with some “adventure” I guess.

Rafting & ATV’s are high on our list. Ziplining as well. Open to other experiences, but don’t know the specific cities I should be looking at staying in.

Look into Manuel Antonio Park for some cool nature stuff. There's a lot of AirBnbs nearby (for great prices) in the area and walkable to several restaurants and bars.

Arenal volcano has some incredible views and some cool hiking nearby.

There's tons of water type tours from the coast towns. We'll be fishing and visiting Isla Tortuga.

Have to stay in Montezuma at least a couple of nights. See Mal Pias and explore that peninsula.

Maybe Tamarindo next then over to Arenal before back to the city.

Going in June, staying in Manuel Antonio. Good mix of beach/bars and restaurants/outdoor activities. Also heard great things about Arenal and Montezuma, but we only have 5 days so we're just staying in one spot.

Montezuma is awesome. We stayed there with our two kids for a week. Could just walk from our AirBNB to everything downtown. Great surfing as well if you're into that. Also some great yoga resorts and such there. It's a very hippy place. It's nickname is MonteFuma because of the amount of pot smoked there. Some of the better food we had in Costa was there as well.

If you're doing Tamarindo, it's a bit of a scene as well. Lots of surfing, but it felt a little touristy for our tastes. I also had people trying to sell me drugs in front of my kids, which was a bit annoying. A place that's close to Tamarindo but a little more low key is Playa Brasilito It's gritty but really cool. If you go a little north of there, a really nice "upscale" resort that has paddelboard rentals and sweet mountain biking trails is Las Catalinas. I like that whole area from Playa Brasilito up to Las Catalinas.
