Truly. Hard to even visualize mountains twice the size of the 14ers in Colorado, and the weather that happens up there.

We were there the 2nd week of June this year. Spent the first half of the week in Estes Park and the 2nd half of the week just south of Breckenridge in Alma. Worked well as we were able to acclimate in stages. Flew into Denver from New Orleans,...stayed a night. On to Estes Park at 7500 feet then on to Alma which is at 10,500 feet. I had no altitude sickness although my family checked out on some of the hikes up to 12000 feet and beyond.

Snow/mud was not an issue for any of our hiking but that is not always the case at that time of year. It was a really dry winter this year and not a lot of snow so conditions can be different year to year. Came across a little snow on some of the higher elevation hikes but not enough to have to put on spikes. Have been there in late May in the past and have needed spikes to hike.

You can generally count on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park being opened by Memorial Day weekend. This year it opened on May 29th even with some late snow in May.

I could vacation there every year and be happy.
