Colorado in October
Looking at a 4 day getaway. Flying into Denver and willing to drive as far as Steamboat. What would you recommend? Will have 2 small children (1.5 and 4.5). We are looking for mostly relaxing and nature things to do. Would love to do some animal related with the kids if possible. Not adverse to hiking.

Breck, Estes (best place to see elk) Grand Lake (best place to see moose), Steamboat. Estes and Grand Lake are right around the national park which is fun with kiddos.

Every time we go to Grand Lake we see multiple moose without fail. We went with my wife’s family when they were visiting we saw about 8 moose in a meadow together. We were also about 50 feet away from one (accidentally) on a trail in the national park.

Aspen and Vail are also nice but will be pricey to stay at.

Breck probably has the widest variety of things to do. Some of the restaurants might be closed for the off season though and getting ready for the ski season.

You really can’t go wrong with Colorado in October.

The beauty of Break is you can also stay in Frisco/Dillon/Silverthorne. It's a quick drive over to Vail and Eagle Co. Not unreasonably far from RMNP. Aspen is a pretty drive assuming the pass is still open at the point of October they're coming through.

There's actually stuff in Summit, it's not as ridiculously expensive as Vail or Aspen, and it's not that far from the Denver Airport.

Breck is always my go to for central location and plenty to do for families.

Thank for the help. Booked a condo in Breck right on the Blue River. Should be a good time with the kids. Any recommendations on activities is appreciated

Do your due diligence planning a hike, because it will be hunting season. I’m sure there are several options where you can hike that hunters aren’t allowed, just something to be aware of.

Estes

Wife had a veterinary conference in Fort Collins in October a few years ago. I spent 3 great October days in Estes. Highly recommend.
