If you were one person taking kids to a city, which would you pick? NYC or Chicago?

I'm leaning towards Chicago. Seems to be easier to get around and there seems to be a ton to do for the kids.

I've brought my kids to both when they were around 7-10 years old.

Both are great for kids. NYC we did the Staten Island Ferry, Yankees game, saw Frozen on Broadway, ice cream at Serendipity, etc

Chicago we hit a couple museums, rode a ferry to Navy Pier, went to a Cubs game, had deep dish pizza. Chicago's museums are amazing, and our kids loved them. They aren't typical "boring" museums. I remember a lot of cool interactive things for them to see and do

My kids like Chicago better because in their words, “it’s not crazy and it was easy.”

Definitely do a cubs game, the zoo and aquarium are fun and there’s another museum that I can’t remember the name of that had a U-boat exhibit that my kids loved.

I visited both for the first time about a week apart when i was a kid. Chi was like a smaller NY. More likely to get better weather there too during summer. But both have tons of things to do.

Seems to be a fraction of the cost, also.

Definitely. Field, Shedd, Adler, and Museum of Science and Industry are all pretty interactive and fun.

The Art Institute is the only “boring” for kids of the big museums

Biased, but Chicago is far less overwhelming for families.

Happy to answer any questions if you end up choosing Chicago. I wrote a pretty extensive Guide, as well - LINK. Scroll down to 'Things to Do' for something a bit more relevant for children. If you want a list of restaurants and breweries that are predominately kid-friendly, let me know. Have a decent number off the top of my head.

Not sure how many people will see this, but figured I’d bump it instead of starting a new thread.

Posters who have been to NY and to Yankees games….we have an option of a Friday night game or a Saturday afternoon game. My dad seems to think that it’s not safe on the NY Subway after a night game. I’m not sure I agree with him.

Can we make it back to Manhattan on the subway after the game without any issues?

Summertime Chi.....

Lots of Museums etc. Less crowded than NYC and yes, easy to get around and navigate.

The 4 train is one of most used subway lines and is perfectly fine. On top of that after a Yankees game the train will be full of Yankee fans heading back downtown, so the biggest issue is it will be crowded, unless you are scared of yuppie yankee fans heading back to Manhattan.

I've never done this, but you can also take a Metro North train, but its more expensive and a few blocks walk to the stadium, as opposed to the MTA stop which is right outside the stadium.

Yup - In general, the Lex Ave line, which is the 4-5-6 trains, is the busiest in New York. Like you said, the biggest "issue" after a game is a crowded train. No different than Chicago on the Red Line after a game at Wrigley or Guaranteed Rate.
