Yeah I’m talking 2nd Grade at the oldest. Entire family is gonna meet up at Disney. One group does home school so they can go. Grandparents are all retired so they are flexible. It’s mainly my kids who will miss but we could make up whatever they need us to. That week looks like a great time to go so I don’t want to plan a huge trip during a really busy week just cuz kids are out of school.

Mardi Gras is a great time to go

I always thought it would be a huge deal and the school would throw a fit.

But they really don't care as long as you make up the work.

Junior year in high school my parents checked me out for two weeks right before finals to go to Europe for my brother's destination wedding. They said no problem have fun, just make up the work. Had an AP exam the day that I got back. Actually got bonus points in French class for taking pictures in Paris.

We’ve done it but we have to get it approved by the school first. As they get older we’ll probably just stick to vacationing when they are off

Hard to believe now, but back in 1976 I was allowed to take off two whole weeks of 6th grade in early May for a Florida vacation.

And don't ask me how I did it, but it wasn't even my immediate family-- it was a previous scheduled trip my grandparents and aunt/uncle and their 3 non-school age kids (5, 3 and 2) had planned. I somehow sweet-talked my grandparents into taking me along, and my parents to let me out of school for those two weeks...

We went all over-- St. Augustine, Daytona, Kennedy Space Center, Disney World, Sea World, Circus World, and then several days in the Tampa/Clearwater area(including Busch Gardens and beaches). And of course being with grandma and paw-paw, I was being spoiled rotten the whole time. I did take the cousins off of my aunt and uncles hands a few times (baby-sat, storytelling)and helped them out in that regard.

Freakin' heaven.. the whole time I was on that trip, I was thinking about those poor saps back in class.

No way that's happening now.
