You just described me last summer. I made it up to the kids by taking a spring trip to Disney (even though I hate that place).
The Emerald Coast sucks this year. There’s a bunch of grass in the water and the first 50 feet of water looks like Biloxi water.
Speaking of Biloxi, if your daughters are younger: take them to Margaritaville for the weekend. Huge arcade, huge pool, and beach environment.

Honestly, just take them over to BSL for the day. Take them to the Buccaneer Bay Waterpark so they can ride the slides and wave pool.
After that lunch in the Bay…then you can charter a sailboat for a couple of hours… https://blackwatervoyages.com/
Then drive home.
Or, you could take them out to Ship Island on the ferry for a whole day too… https://msshipisland.com/

Have family there. It’s fantastic. Check the amphitheater schedule. I saw raconteurs there about 20 minutes after LSU beat Bama in 2019. Was one of the GOAT days of my life so I am fond of that area.

Biloxi is not terribly far from your location. The kids can swim and there are some nice seafood places.

Just returned from Orange Beach. Motel prices are sky high. Beachfront motels are nearly $400 a night plus add about 50 for taxes. Stayed across the street for cheaper rate(not fun). Arrived on Sunday to avoid the weekend prices. Traffic was bad and most hotels booked full. Pay to park everywhere. Don't eat a Original Oyster house. Oyster parmason tasted like too salted cheese. Was a complete rip off. Eat the Royal Reds at the Steamer by Perdigo bridge. Best ever. If you go, park under Perdigo bridge for a shaded beach experience. Lots of boats to watch. Steamer snow crabs are to kill for. I killed my wife eating Royal Reds.

I have never heard of this in Orange Beach

Pay to park at all public beaches, fishing pier lot, $3.00/2 hrs, then pay again to enter. Lots of tow away zones.

Dauphin Island is pretty reasonable.

If big thing is the beach and cost just ho to Biloxi and lounge out on the beach. While not the nicest it isn't a horrible option, then you could take the kids to the lazy river or go cart racing
Take the ferry to Ship Island to enjoy the beach

Ship island it is.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. They are really eye-opening and will likely visit some of these other ones as well

Man, we go to the Oasis in Gulfport a few times a summer. It has a lazy river, 2 huge water slides, pool, and then a big multi-slide deal for small kids/ toddlers.
it's right across the street from the beach so you can go there if you want. it's not the white sandy beaches and nice waters of 30A, but beggars can't be choosers.
