May have to make a last second trip to a funeral. Rarely fly, figured I'd check to see if there are any tips before I just grab something off kayak or whatever. TIA

Also for southwest their low fare calendar is an easy quick way to see their cheapest flights. You can check several dates at the same time in case flying in a day early is worth it

When, where, dates, times? Airlines used to offer bereavement fares but think they have stopped doing those. Google flights and southwest's calendar feature are the way to go

I have google flights on my phone, I also check trip advisor and other sites to compare.

The key to cheap flights is flexibility on departure/ destination points and dates. If you don't have this, you're at the mercy of the airlines.
