What are the pros & cons for these two? Me and my family just finished a week cruise on Carnival Dream (sailed out of New Orleans). I’m planning on trying Royal Caribbean next. I’m just curious to hear others thoughts. TIA

This!

Carnival is Walmart and Royal Caribbean is Target. Just a different class of people depending on where you are cruising from. I've sailed from Miami and it wasn't as bad of an experience compared to NOLA or Galveston.

Length of the trip plays a big role in the clientele of the boat as well

Carnival is simply the budget cruise line. End of story.

Royal Caribbean is definitely a step up in terms of facilities, services, etc. The clientele can be hit or miss. It depends on your port of embarkation.

I've done two RC cruises. One which embarked from Tampa and the other which embarked from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The difference between the clientele was night and day.

The added expense of having to get to San Juan definitely made for a classier group of people on that cruise.

I know the 4 day out of NOLA gets a lot of WalMart comments... but it was like the Ritz compared to the people on a 5 night Carnival out of Miami.

I agree with this statement. We went on a 7 day out of Galveston and Miami both and the class of people just seemed better on the Miami cruise. Also did a 4-5 day out of NOLA and wow that one was baaaaaad. It was more of a Dollar General cruise.

Also depends on the ship. The newer the ship, the better the clientele.

RCCL ships are more like malls at sea with common brands on board (Starbucks, Johnny Rockets). Carnival ships are more glitzy, Vegas-style.

Really referring to under 7 days vs over. It’s amazing how much people that can take more than a week for a cruise change.

I wouldn't compare a value line like Carnival to a premium line like Royal Caribbean.

Carnival would be better compared to Norwegian.
