I saw Costa Rica got downvoted earlier, probably because its best areas aren't on the Carribean side, but its perfect for families.

I actually came back from the Caribbean side on Saturday. I found Playa Cocles, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo as pretty as it gets, but far less commercialized than some of the Pacific Beaches. I love staying where the jungle meets the beach. Puerto Viejo was a cool town as well and extremely safe.

The Moorings out of Tortola. They’ll do you right.

Thanks for this, looks like a great option.

Anyone ever captain one of those motor yachts yourself? I am proficient with center consoles up to 42' but I've never docked a motor yacht.

Not because of the cost, but having some dude on a smallish boat with us seems kinda weird.

Other than departure and arrival back in Tortola it's pretty much all mooring balls unless you need fuel or water.

If you're not comfortable they'll send a captain to dock it for you.

My wife and I were in Turks and Caicos in June when some guy came along very close to the beach in a very nice, large yacht. I thought he was too close but he was moving along at a pretty good speed so it appeared he knew what he was doing. He stopped very near our hotel and boats went out and tied to the yacht. Our beach attendants said it was customs. We were told later that he was dragging the bottom of his yacht along the reef damaging both the reef and the whole bottom of his boat. He was still there a couple of days later when we left. Be careful out there.

So how many days does it take to get used to that tiny little shitter? The alcohol consumption on a sailboat where some else is driving and another person is making food and drinks has me worrying about such first world problems.

The size of the bathroom of the sailboat we were on was not bad at all considering the space they have to work with. On a bigger cat the bathroom will be less of a problem. Then again, I'm not fat.

You might look into a cruise.

There’s so much for your kids to do on board and you’ll get to see a variety of islands. They’re all very different and offer relaxation and adventure.

The best part for you and the wife will be the kids’ clubs. Your kids can go run off with those activities leaving you and your wife plenty of time on your own to do what you want.

It’s pretty amazing what’s on these ships these days. You never have to worry about food. If you don’t like an island, no worries! You’re at a new one tomorrow.

Just food for thought. It’s another option your kids will love.

Royalton St Lucia is a great resort for families who like excursions. It’s all inclusive and a great price.

We did St. Lucia with our two kids and it was great. We stayed at Coconut Bay. Everything with the resort was great besides the seaweed. Didn't realize at the time the difference between the Atlantic and Caribbean sides difference with seaweed amounts. We felt very safe there.

We also have done the Bahamas. We really liked all of the snorkeling and crystal clear water. Nassau and surrounding area. I would not go back to Freeport. I didn't find it had as much to offer and very industrialied.

I did Belize last year and had the hopes of bringing the kids back there. We stayed in Ambergris Caye and San Pedro area. I know there is a lot of buzz about there but I did not care for it at all and definitely would not bring my kids there.

Other places we liked and felt very safe were Aruba and Antigua.

USVI and the British Islands are next on our list.

Relatively easy travel - flights/shuttles to and from island/property (Delta a plus)

Diverse nature (Great beaches, mountains, forests)

Only a few places with this. What sticks out to me:
1) Puerto Rico
2) Belize
3) Costa Rica.

All three have good beaches and great places to visit. Also are very friendly and welcoming to tourists.

We just did Grand Cayman this year and had a blast there too, rented a car and drove around to a bunch of the different beaches to snorkel each day.
