Just found out I’ll be headed to Cape Town from August through October for work. Any locals here from the area? Suggestions on things to see, places to eat? Anywhere to watch LSU football games?

Just returned from RSA last week. Spent most of my time in Johannesburg and Limpopo.
The country continues to be ravaged by Covid. The popular Mayor of Johannesburg succumbed to it yesterday.
They are currently in a Level 4 lockdown. No travel between States, no non-essential businesses open, all restaurants closed for indoor/outdoor dining, absolutely no alcohol sales at all. The only accepted gathering is for funerals. Most parks and or scenic/historic attractions are closed.
Restrictions are to be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours. Most expect they’ll remain at Level 4.
Less than 1% of their population is vaccinated and the situation grows worse each day as the infection spreads beyond Gauteng/JoBurg.
Be sure you are vaccinated. Make the most of what’s available.

The COVID spike is really sad, and it looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better. I am heading to Kruger National Park the week after Christmas, and am selfishly hoping that COVID doesn't have any impact on my trip.

This one is gonna stick around for a bit longer for sure.
Honestly, having just returned…. If you are vaccinated you’ll still have the time of your life. My family went to Mapungubwe (2nd largest park to Kruger) and practically had the entire park to themselves for two days.
I do hate that we weren’t able to take in more of the sights; but, it gives me an excuse to go back. We’re already planning for another trip to take in Cape Town/Stellenbosh as soon as Covid is behind us.

After the President’s address Stage 4 lockdowns remain in place for at least two more weeks with some small caveats.
Masks remain mandated at all indoor/outdoor public spaces. No inter-State travel. Absolutely no alcohol sales. Restaurants are now allowed to open at reduced capacity and gyms have been allowed to reopen at reduced capacity.
Violence and rioting have erupted following the arrest of former President Zuma over corruption charges. Protestors have set up roadblocks and fires have been set to areas of the N2 (major roadway in the Eastern Cape).
I’d exercise extreme caution if venturing outside of well policed areas of Cape Town.

places to eat?
Nelson’s Eye, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and multiple bottles of SA wine.

There is a 7 hour time difference. So a 7pm Central kickoff is 2am in Cape Town. Plus they don’t care about American college ball. I was there for just over 2 weeks at the end of 2019 and watched the a&m and SEC championship games on YouTube in the apartment.

Camps bay in Cape Town. Make your way down to the cape of good hope. Then get out of cape town and hit wine country, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, etc.
