Spend a night in Santa Barbara. A couple of nice spots in "The Funk Zone". I think there was a Hotel Indigo, Hotel Californian and couple of other spots. Beachfront Hilton is few blocks away if you are using points but it is an older property. Anyway, in The Funk Zone, several nice restaurants and wine tasting rooms to spend a good afternoon. Restaurants we liked (Loquita, Toma, Oku). Wine tasting rooms (Margerum, Jaffurs, and Melville).

Skip Fresno. City is a town you drive through and stop for gas. For Big Sur, check to see what part is closed. They had a huge wild fire a few years back and not sure if the road is 100% open. Monterey area is beautiful and if you have never been, got to the Monterey aquarium. Best one in the workd

There for business. Otherwise you are correct! Haha!
Also Hollywood. I know people will say avoid, but if you know of good food there let me know.

I was out there a few weeks ago and spent time in Monterrey and Fresno for work. Two totally different worlds. Monterrey is lush and chilly, Fresno is what I would imagine hell to be like. Hot and dry and everything is burned up.

I go there 2-3 times per year. Much of the year is pretty nice. Summer is brutal.
It’s not a bad little town and close to Yosemite.

Thanks. I know Gwen is a Curtis Stone place.
I’m going to look up the other places.

I hope people give a lot of good answers to the Paso Robles part. We are staying at the Paso Robles Inn on the Town Square the week before the LSU-UCLA game.

I currently have reservations at the Courtyard in PR.
Still looking though.
I got a recommendation for BL Brasserie and Buena Tavola.
Also for wineries Niners, TH Estate and Austin Hope.
I love the Austin Hope Cab and Syrah so def going there.
And Allegretto and Hotel Cheval for the hotel. But those are more than I want to spend.

As good friend of mine stayed at the Allegretto a few weeks ago and recommended it highly. The reason we picked the Paso Robles Inn instead is because it is right in the middle of town whereas the other one is off by itself a few miles away.

If you're going to Paso Robles, swing by Avila Beach and Pismo Beach. Both great little beach towns and the Oceana Dunes Park is in Pismo Beach.
You can rent quads and ride the dunes that overlook the Pacific Ocean. I love the central coast.

Great recommendations.
I had that route in my plans. Trying to stay along the coast.
Will check out Oceana!
Planning on Morro Bay before heading inland to PR. Good to do?
The Rock at Morro Bay Area seems cool.
Do you know anything about the roads heading from Morro Bay to PR (Hwy 41 or 46)?
And one last question.
We were thinking of skipping Hwy 1 between Morro and Cambria. I’m sure it’s nice but we are going north from PR to Carmel/Monterey.
Thanks for all your help.

The absolute best nigiri I’ve ever had.
Don’t go if you’re looking for rolls or even sashimi dishes, however.
Also, there are multiple locations throughout the LA area, so you don’t necessarily need to venture near Hollywood (the la brea location).

Definitely hit Niner Estates in Paso Robles. The crisp Bruts and fruit-forward Pinots are excellent and the on-site restaurant is perhaps even better.
Im sure y’all won’t but don’t pass up Hearst Castle and their Neptune Pool. Then drive past all of the horses and zebras up to the Hearst Ranch Winery for their Chardonnays. Their new tasting room has great ocean views.

I’m keeping an eye on it. It is showing “temporarily closed” right now.
