Has anyone ever stayed at the Dreams Los Cabos in Cabo? Looking into a trip for the wife and son and this looks like a family friendly place.

Anyone have any other experiences with other resorts in Mexico that are family friendly that they would care to share?

Stay at Grand Solmar Lands End. Their kids club is outstanding and offer all-day activities for all ages. Here are some photos from our trip this past June.

Went for 2 weeks this time, and could have easily stayed for more. We found ourselves doing less adventurous things things time (dune buggies, zip lines) which made the time go by much slower...it was perfect. Here are some pics:

::::::: SLEEP :::::::

We always stay at Grand Solmar Land's End, it is the southernmost resort in Cabo and you can walk over to Lover's Beach when the tide is low. It is a VERY chill place and has now completed their last additions to the resort which they began over 5 years ago (from the ground up).

Checkin lobby

This area used to be their "VIP" check-in but they have since converted it to their sushi bar. The food was pretty good although the menu is not super extensive so don't expect the same quality of sushi as Matsuhisa in Aspen, CO. Their ceviche is fricking outstanding and is about as fresh as it comes...daily out of Pacific.

Here are some pics or our room, it was a 3 bedroom 3 bath just across from the sushi bar area. Perfect location overlooking the 2 main pools.

Other than our patio, this was our favorite perch for morning coffee. The wind was always blowing gently through here.

Pics of Pools and Main Ground of the resort...

They have a breakfast shop that offers everything from STONG arse coffee to Lox salmon bagels and big donuts.

Onsite grocery store has everything you could need and then some. And it's really not that much more than buying things in town.

Onsite Sports Bar which stayed busy from 7pm on....this was right before they closed.

Open grill for their menu or if you bring fish from your charter they will cook it for you.

Most of these tables have gas-fed fire in crushed glass and at night are 100% full of people and live music.

Through these windows is the gym, right below the "fire pit tables".

They have these "flash mob" style entertainment that disappear just as quickly as they arrive. Great entertainment that doesn't loiter after they are done asking for tips.

The resort faces the pacific, and they strongly discourage swimming in the water as you can see here. In fact, you may have read about a couple last year that was swept into the water while walking on the beach and the wife drowned...ya, that was right here.

If you are up to climbing, there is a large hill (what I call a mountain) directly behind the resort that offers a steep and direct ascent. My 11 year old son and I did it the last day....took about an hour to get up and 90 minutes to get down. Here are some pics:

Here are some different things the hotel haps, maps, etc. Their kids club is awesome, we used it last year when our younger son was 7 and he loved it, asked to go back the next day.

::::: TRANSPORTATION :::::

We called Tony Baja tours for our airport/resort transfers. We paid $150 total and we were picked up in a private and hew Tahoe, they even stopped by Wal-Mart for 45 minutes for us. When you arrive at the airport, WALK STRAIGHT OUTSIDE or else you will be hounded by timeshare sharks.

...and the best part about Wal-Mart is that we had Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez help with our groceries. My kids went nuts when he came up and we have some awesome pics with him, the kid looked just like him. Here is one without my kiddos.

::::::: EATS :::::::

We didn't venture out as much as we usually do since it was just us the kiddos this time, we baked in the sun all day we were all usually asleep by 9:00pm.

The Office - solid place for breakfast that we hit up a few times. They have a water taxi to the Arc and Lovers Beach for $5 if you show your food receipt to the boat captain. TIP - don't sit in the tables near the beach unless you want to get haggled by vendors for fake Oakleys, silver jewelry, and straw sombreros.

Lover's Beach

Seal Rock by the arches

The famous arch (AKA "Los Cabos") - can you see the Dragon drinking from the sea? I thought that was pretty cool.

La Esquina - modern Mexican food that's part of the Hacienda Hotel (I think). Food was awesome and the service was great. We ordered the seafood soup, lobster tails, and the filet.

La Palapa - regular spot that had average food...so average that I forgot to take pics.

Tacos 101 - pretty tasty and fast. We had 10 tacos for $12 and all the fixings we wanted. Would go back to this place despite Tacos Guss being our favorite....which is just a stone's throw from this place.

Other pics of bars during the day vs at night. We went out 1 night and just couldn't hang...so sad.

We stayed at Dreams a couple of months ago. It's a beautiful facility, rooms are very nice, pools are great, drinks are plentiful, etc. The restaurants are pretty average (exactly what you would expect from an all-inclusive), however the breakfast place exceeded expectations. Staff there are very helpful for booking excursions (snorkeling, fishing, camel rides, etc.). The only con I can think of is distance from downtown Cabo San Lucas. I want to say a cab is $30 one-way.

My thoughts exactly. Went there for a wedding last year. At least the cabs are Econoline vans and you can fit a lot of people per ride.

Wow that's great information. Thanks so much for providing all of that.

What is everyone's opinion on the safety? Is there any reason to be scared of taking my family there?

Cabo has 1/1,000th the crime rate of most US cities.

Safe safe safe. The local shop owners solely rely on tourism to put food on the table for their families. You can be sure they don't tolerate any teen hooliganism.

I've never felt in danger. The media takes advantage of every opportunity to report a murder in Mexico.

We stayed at Terrasol 2 years ago. It's right next to grand solmar. It was older but the condo was nice and it was very affordable. Used airbnb. I'd stay there again, but it didn't have anything for kids besides a pool. I loved cabo and felt very safe. We walked everywhere but cabs were always available and cheap. Just agree on cost before you get in. And go eat at Gordo LeLes and tell Javier hello

No issues at all. I live in New Orleans and it was embarrassing how much cleaner Cabo was and how much safer it felt.

Solmar Lands End looks awesome! Great pictures - will definitely check this place out. Curious, looks like the Spa services are in US dollars - I'm assuming the dinner menu items are in pesos or else very expensive to eat on the resort?

The sushi menu from the hotel you see is in pesos. For dinner, I would suggest going into town and immerse yourself in the local spots.

We stayed at Rui Palace. It was a decent place but it felt so far away from town. Next time I go, we will stay somewhere closer to everything. One thing I didnt like was the beach. It was nearly impossible to take a walk along the beach. We had 8 adults, all in our 30s, several who work out every day and the sand was so thick and every step we took would sink you almost up to your calves in the sand. We eventually said f this and got in a water taxi to the bar. Boy was that wild. The waves were wildly crashing and it was honestly scary trying to get in the boat. That was the first and last time any of us got on the beach or in the water.

My wife and I went to Cabo as part of our honeymoon. We got back last week and stayed at the Grand Solmar. It was our first time in Cabo and I did a lot of research and gleaned a lot of info from this board, especially HGG’s posts. I can’t speak for the Dreams resort, but Grand Solmar did have a kids club and there were lots of families with kids from 3-10 at the resort. We spent most of our time at the adults only pool for some quiet relaxation. But I wouldn’t have any problem bringing our kids if we ever went back.

I guess I’ll post my review of our trip in this thread, maybe there will be some helpful info for you. We used Tony Baja for our airport transfer, he is a Mexican American that used to live in Cali but has been working in Cabo for years. He’s very friendly and a hard worker. He likes to talk a lot, so half of the shite he says contradicts something he’s already told you lol. But he’s a good dude, took us to Walmart and carried our groceries for us. The humpback whales were migrating while we were there and he set us up with a breakfast whale watching cruise one day. We payed him $55 cash for each of us, and he picked us up and brought us to the marina and signed us in. The boat was nice and the food was great. We looked up the tour on the travel co’s website and they were charging $89 per person for the same tour.

HGG pretty much has Grand Solmar covered in his post, I will add that the adults only pool was kind of isolated, but it was just what we were looking for. We are breakfast and dinner at La Roca on-site, and we were on an outdoor terrace watching the waves come in. It was awesome.

We felt very safe the whole time we were there. We went into town a few times, and the cabs are cheap. They are nice Ford econline vans and they are everywhere. Just be sure to ask how much the ride is before you take off. The first time we got a cab we were waiting outside our resort and this big van pulls up. Our valet says “Here is your taxi.” I thought it was like a group shared ride deal, but just the two of us got in and off we went.

We ate dinner one night at Los Tres Gallos in town. It was excellent! It is an open air restaurant with fresh, authentic Mexican food. It will make you think twice about eating at a Mexican restaurant back here in the states. The ceviche was amazing, and the main dishes were outstanding. We finished it off with a tres leches cake. Amazing. Next time we go to Cabo we will definitely eat here again.

After our whale tour we spent a few hours walking around the marina. It is the “touristy” area of Cabo, lots of shops and restaurants. Again we never felt in danger. Other than the guys hitting you up for excursions and the old ladies selling pottery/jewelry, it was fine. Just politely so no thank you and they will leave you alone. If a kid comes up and offers you a cigar, tell him no! Because then they will offer you weed and coke. Unless that’s what you’re looking for, lol.

Our last night in town we had reservations for a sunset dinner at Restaurant de Mona Lisa. Again, based off HGG’s recommendation. I found it to be just like he described. Very nice place, a cool layout with all of the tables facing the sunset. There was actually a wedding going on while we were there and a guy a few tables over proposed to his gf at sunset. It was a cool atmosphere. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. It is very fancy, they bring you several choices of breads, crackers etc. They also brought us a nice tray of desserts with “Happy Honeymoon” written in chocolate. It is in upscale restaurant for the area, but our bill was only about $90 USD. A similar meal at little village in BR would run about $150. It was a beautiful setting and a cool experience, but I doubt we would go back.

You can use dollars everywhere you go, most places will have the exchange rate written in plain sight for you. It was anywhere from 18-20 pesos to a dollar when we were there. I exchanged $200 for pesos to use for cabs, tips etc. You usually get a better deal on pesos, but if you don’t have any you will be fine.

Lastly, our experience at the Cabo Airport was great. We landed the day after Christmas around noon and our plane was the only one going through customs. Took about 10 minutes for customs and passport check, and we were out the door. There is a sea of people asking you if you have a ride, and some of them are very confusing. They will make you think they are there for you only. Have your transportation lined up before you go and make sure they will have a sign with your name. That way if anyone else tells you they are your driver you know they are BS’ing you. When we flew out of Cabo, our flight was at 8:30 am. We got the airport about 6:30 and checked our bags with no problem. There was a flight out at 8 and then no more until 11:30 that morning. We had the whole airport to ourselves. We flew in on United, and our on Southwest. Good experiences both ways.

Anyway, hope you can find some info in there. I learned a lot by reading others reviews on here and TripAdvisor, etc. so hopefully I can pay it forward. You will enjoy it, it is a beautiful place.

RE:Using dollars vs pesos.

Of course they want you to use dollars because they make an additional 10-20% on the exchange rate if you use dollars. For the best value always pay in pesos if at all possible.

Los Tres Gallos is a must. Fantastic restaurant. Pay the mariachi a couple of bucks to play Mariachi Loco for you.

Glad you guys had a blast. Do you recall Manny from the front door bellhop crew? We go eat with him and his family each time we visit. He and his wife are super cool. She is from Oklahoma but lives there now (they have kids). The nice guy that greets you as you arrive is the same nice guy at dinner or offsite. Get to know him if you can, that dude knows EVERYONE in town and has some awesome celebrity dirt stories if you're looking for a great laugh. Tony Baja is also a great resource to get connected with, he also is well-connected to the excursion owners and offers killer discounts. He is very reliable and yes, LOVES to talk talk talk. First thing he does is give you his cell # so you can call with any questions while you are there.
