Looking at a trip next summer to North Carolina.
White water rafting, hiking, cabins, etc.

Great Smoky Mountain Railroad train ride is great for both adults and children. Don't know if they still have the dinner mystery train ride, but if so, check it out.

Love that whole east-of-park area. So quiet and chill compared to the Tennessee side (IE Gatlinburg, P Forge, etc...)

It’s been several years, but we took the train up the mountain and then rafted down near Nantahala Outdoor Center. It was a blast. The train station has a museum that’s pretty cool, too.
