Looking to do a road trip to Breckenridge in June. Looking to rent a place for 5 of us to stay in the area for 5 full days. We will do some hiking, sight seeing, and just hanging out enjoying the scenery.
Any suggestions on places to stay, things to do, Peaks to see, etc?

Get on VRBO or another site for home rentals. Hotels in Breck are very pricey. Stay as close to town as possible. And you need to get on this ASAP as it fills up very quickly in June / July.

We'll be there the last week of June and first week of July. Been going annually in that timeframe for the past 8 years.

For hiking, use the All Trails app. There's several great hikes within 10-15 minutes of Main St. Hike Mount Quandary if you're feeling up for it. It's probably one of the easier 'Fourteeners' in Colorado, but it's definitely note an easy hike.

Made a day trip over to Buena Vista and do some rafting.

Use Great Western Lodging to find some decent pricing on condo rentals.

I still haven't done this yet. I think this will be the year. How far up the mountain can you drive, and then how much further do you need to hike to get to the summit?

Hoosier Pass is a good easy hike nearby - GREAT bang for your buck in terms of views vs. time spent hiking. Mohawk Lakes is a bit longer and very scenic. Quandary Peak is an 'easy' 14er. Mt. Democrat is also an easier 14er in the area.

The toughest hike in the area would be the DeCaLiBron - four 14ers in one day. Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, Bronn. I'd only do this with a lot of research.

You can drive all the way up to the top of Mt Evans
Check the weather forecast and road conditions especially at the higher elevations

There are plenty of places you can stop on the way, get out and you can do some short hikes that way if you want

They have a bad arse roller coaster (more like a bob sled on a track) there on the mountain where you sit in these tiny little cars and go down the mountain. They actually had it open during ski season and I can only imagine how much fun it is in the summer during the warm weather.

June is still muddy season from snowmelt

If you want to hike Id highly recommend late July and August

My favorite trails:
Mohawk Lakes
Herman Gulch
Hoosier Pass to Northstar Mountain peak

Vail is not far from Breckenridge and they have an adventure park you access from ski lift

They have a neat alpine coaster, summer tubing, zip lines, ropes course, jeep tour, etc.
You can do it all day and they have food options as well

Went to a wedding in Vail in July about 10 years ago and it was so much fun. The day before we rented mtn bikes. Take the gondola up to the top and just bomb down the mountain. The weather was just perfect too.

They had the beginnings of the adventure park at the time - climbing wall, stuff like that, but I'm sure it's improved since we went out there.

Or you could just sit at the top of the mountain, drink beer and enjoy the views.

I respectfully disagree, our family did Quandary after about 4 days of sleeping in Breck with little issue. I know several people who did it after a couple days too, or even 12 hours of time at altitude. As long as you’re willing to be patient with resting on the way up I think most reasonably in shape sea levelers could do Quandary

It’s doable, but you need to be out there for a few days before attempting it. A handful of years ago I made the mistake of trying to hike Mt Baldy on my first full day in Breck, and it was a nightmare trying to catch my breath, and I’m in very good shape.

This past summer we went for 13 days and I hiked Quandary on day 8 which made a HUGE difference. Didn’t have any trouble at all. The best part about the hike was running into a family of mountain goats about half way between the first and second ridge. I ended up doing some research and apparently they live on the mountain and you can see them on most hikes.

You feel it but 14,000 feet is nothing
