So I normally try and fly out of BTR when convenient, but thanksgiving travel to dallas this year is more than usual so I'm comparing options out of MSY and LFT. Only reason I'm considering LFT is because I can use miles on AA (7500) each way, which is actually a pretty good redemption for expensive one-way tickets. Can't use miles out of MSY so would have to buy a ticket for about $250 with the times not being as good as LFT. Any BR travelers have a preference for LFT or MSY over the other?

Pros about MSY are that it's a larger airport with more flights so if there's any delays or cancellations, I'd likely make it in/out on my days of travel. There are a ton of parking options, but with the fees it ends up being about $12/day no matter if I choose the credit card lot or pnf. Con would be that the lots/parking garages are usually full and that it's a much busier airport around thanksgiving, meaning security lines would be much longer

Pros about LFT are that it's actually technically closer to downtown BR which is near my residence. Also LFT is a much smaller airport so I figure I can get there about an hour before my flight and not have to worry about the credit card lot or long-term lot being full, even over thanksgiving. Con would be driving the basin and praying traffic is okay on a tuesday afternoon heading towards Laffy.

Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated

Unless you have a reason not, why not drive? 6 hours is about the break even point between flying and driving.

Car has 130,000 miles on it and is a 2004. Not sure I trust it making that long a drive unless I get some decent work done on it. Plus the grandparents in TX don't drive well so I'm basically their chauffeur while I'm there

Not in my experience. Alll situations are different but I routinely fly to NOLA from Houston. Well worth it. Have flown to Dallas from houston several times. But that was for work obligations. So it’s a bit different scenario

Yeah I will take my 45 minute flight to Houston or hour flight to Dallas rather than drive any day... I hate being the car more than an hour.

I’ve only done LFT once. Wasn’t bad. I’m guessing parking will be a bit cheaper and you’ll be about 15 minutes closer than MSY from Downtown BR.

I check all 3 when flying. MSY, BTR, LFT.
I consider both flight time convenience and price.
Usually, MSY or LFT has to be at least $100/per person cheaper for me to consider it.
Or... it has to save me several hours in addition to overcoming the additional driving time.

Although, I really try very hard to fly out of BTR, it is about a 50/50 proposition between MSY and BTR.
There's only been 2 instances where LFT had a better overall value proposition.
