Board thoughts on Hong Kong?

Is it still safe to visit and worth visiting?
I’ve been thinking about making an East Asia grand tour and would like to include it considering all the history and stories I’ve read/heard, but don’t want to go in blind considering the recent troubles.
What are the board’s thoughts? Anyone been relatively recently?

There was a thread a few weeks back on this exact topic... Search and should get all the data you need out of that.
FTR, Hong Kong is amazing... Haven't been in 4yrs, but need to get back.

It's like being in a western city, but Chinese everywhere.

Not in a decade.

I was there last month for a long weekend …
It is a very safe city and quite lively in the SoHo/Central area. Great shopping, sites and food/drink. Tons of expat energy in spots.
Certainly worth an add to your tour

Was down in Shenzhen back in 2019 and wanted to make to trip over but was advised not to at the time. Kind of wish I had just done it. You could see the military vehicles lined up headed over to Hong Kong. I'm sure it is perfectly safe to go now though
Shenzhen is an awesome city though

I didn't love Hong Kong, but I'm not a fan of giant cities in general.
If you are thinking about an East Asia trip, my favorites have been:
Beijing and the Great Wall.
Hanoi and Halong Bay.
Ho Chi Minh City was interesting because of the war related sites.
Cambodia, particularly Siem Reap.
Chiang Mai.
Delhi and Agra are pretty fantastic as well but not geographically in the same neighborhood.

I did a 24 hour layover in HK and enjoyed it, but I also felt like that was enough time when I continued to my destination.

You need 3-4 days to do Hong Kong, so much to do and such a great jumping off destination.
Can be in Phillipines in 2hrs or Thailand/Vietnam in like 3-4
