I stayed at the Hapuna Beach Resort.

Beautiful beach.

Chartered a fishing boat out of Kailua Kona. Good times.

Get a Jeep and drive up to Mauna Kea and over to Hilo.

I also went to the Southernmost Point.

Not sure how Mauna Loa throws a curve into your plans.

Finding naked women at a beach there was not a negative.

One of me and three of them.

Best meal I had last time was a sunset dinner at ULU at the four seasons. Your wife will love you for it. Make reservations.
-Green Sand Beach- bring cash and pay the locals to take you to it. It will be a bumpy ride.
-Black Sand Beach and Volcanoes you can do in the same day. Hit up Punalu’u Bakery on the way.
-Mauna Kea at sunset was the favorite thing we did last time. You can go to the summit if you have a Jeep. You have to stop at the visitor center for 30 minutes first, and there’s a place close to the center to watch the sunset if you don’t want to go to the summit. The center offers telescope use for free certain nights and it’s awesome. It can get a chilly up there. Ate at the Big Island Brewhaus after that. Great day.
-Kona Brewery good food and beer.
-Our first trip the favorite thing was Pololu Valley. We hiked down and watched surfing.
-We mostly went to Beach 69 and the beach across the highway from the veterans cemetery.
-Bring water and snacks in the car when you’re going places as the drives can be long. -Also bring tennis shoes if you’re adventuring sandals might not work.
-I found that the cheapest gas was between kona brewery/target and the airport on the highway. If you’re going far, fill up.
-Don’t forget to relax. Aloha!

Waipio Valley is amazing but the hike down there and back is no joke. The "road" which is really only for 4x4s is the steepest in the United States.

Eat at the Lava Lava Beach Club. Right on the beach. Best location for a restaurant and the food and drinks are really good.
Take the kids to Flumin da Ditch in Kohala. You take kayaks down old sugar can field ditches. They go underground at a few points. It's really fun and they give you a tour of that part of the island as well.

Lava lava beach club was pretty fun, especially at sunset. Go snorkeling with the manta rays at night, there are many boat charters from Mona that offer this. I would recommend staying a couple nights on the Hilo side, closer to the volcanos, and just a completely different feel from the kona side. The waterfalls and botanical gardens on the Hilo side are pretty fun. Just drive around and eat at some of the local places in the little towns.

Went 7 years ago and are planning another trip this year.

Southpoint to jump into ocean, 2 step is great and easy for snorkling. Green sands beach but like someone said, bring some money for a ride. Volcano park is fun.

Drive from Kona to Hilo on northern route is nice. Never went around island on southern route. We drove back on saddle road at night but wouldn't recommend. Worse than Amalfi, IT

Have fun

We'll be there that week as well. 3 nights in Hilo, 3 nights in Waikoloa.
Planning on waterfalls/hiking/volcano park on the Hilo side.
Beaches and water activities on Waikoloa side.
I imagine we'll be spending a significant amount of time at Lava Lava.
Tried to find a good Luau to go to, but it seems like they're all super touristy on the Big Island.

The Luau I went to on the big island was in the Marriott I believe. The food was pretty good and they had an open bar.
