How young?

San Diego has Zoo and Legoland which are nice for kids under 8.

It’s been awhile for me as far as young kids go.

Aquariums can be nice.

Girls 1 and barely 4. Sitter (MIL) is coming too. We were planning on going skiing but cancelled because we think it would be a waste of money because the 4 year old would probably be a little too young (probably take her when she’s more like 7 - 10 age range)

Want something fun and Wintery though

We did ski trips where the resort had a daycare.

Great Wolf Lodge offers an awesome weekend getaway during Christmas... it's perfect for small kiddos

Lots of activities all day.

4 is fine to put her on the bunny slopes in a class. You’d be amazed how quickly young kids adapt to skis.

Wife has never been though and I’m afraid it’ll end up where I am living skiing and everyone else is miserable and I waste $5k. Thoughts? Any of y’all have experience taking a 4 year old up there?

Aspen

Buttermilk mountain is a fantastic spot for kiddos to learn skiing

The town itself is gorgeous and there are cool things for kids (indoor water park, ice skating, massive confectionary)

Your four year old will be a champ on the bunny slopes in one day of ski school. Breckenridge

Get your wife private lessons. She’ll pick it up...and either like it or not.

We've taken ours with us on ski trips since before they could walk. We put them in ski school as soon as they would take them, which I think was 3 or 4 if they were potty trained. We are fans of Taos as it seems to be the best combo of good terrain, an easy drive, and good ski school/daycare at a somewhat reasonable price. My in-laws also join us some years and they are not skiers so they like being able to stay in a real town that is at a lower elevation and has plenty of non-snow sports options. I think this year we signed the kids up for 3 days of ski school and then they'll hang out with Grandma for the other days.

Agree with the advice of putting your wife in lessons as well, preferably private. Much better idea than trying to teach her yourself.

Where are you going skiing for only $5K with a family of 5?
