There were several ok restaurants and bars in the area but nothing like what you would get in other areas of the city.
This is why I don’t generally recommend staying in the financial district. Other areas more suited to tourists or nightlife/entertainment will have more things to do in the immediate vicinity of your hotel. Iirc, the financial district becomes a ghost town later at night and on the weekends.
Of course, nyc isn’t really all that large, and everything is easily accessible via subway, but the financial district would be way down my list of places to stay. Really the only appeal is that it’s closer to the attractions on the southern end of the city- 9/11, battery park, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn bridge

I prefer Lower East Side/East Village/Bowery area

If you're going for all the major tourist attractions, then Marriott Marquis in Times Square is the perfect location & hotel.

Staying close to the park is nice with kids. Museums are close by, the subway can take you anywhere. We stayed at the Essex House several years ago with two little kids and had a great time.

Good recommendation, especially if someone wants to avoid an overly “touristy” area, but still wants to feel a little excitement of the city

I'll be there in June also. I've been a few times and my favorite is Doubletree in Times Square. I like the hustle and bustle though. If you're looking for a little peace and quiet, don't stay there!

Tough to recommend NYC in general for someone looking for peace and quiet
