Price range 150-200 max, don't care at all about the name. Really just want something I can still use 5 years from now and can shoulder.

Ebags. I've run some of them for over a decade and a half, and done as little as requested a replacement wheel on a 28" on my long trip bag. They have a bag that has straps on it as well. I have a 21" and some larger ones, and they're bulletproof. I'm probably 22 years into eBags overall. Never been disappointed. I've dragged them miles over cobblestone streets and up train stairs that were clearly not the intent of the bag designers. If you travel to places like London, Paris, or Brussels, you may want to consider an anti-theft bag, like Pac-Safe. However, Parisian airport security at CDG will be stunned at how many wires (anti cut and run) are running through the straps, and will keep you from the lounge while they discuss how much of a terrorist you appear to be.
GoRuck is too expensive for your range, but I've also had a $35 Amazon MOLLE bag that has lasted for years. 5 days is easy, except for toiletries.
My real game changer was a pack-it folder from Eagle Creek, like this. You can wear a shirt straight out of it with a coat and show no wrinkles. There are fabrics that are far, far, better than the non iron we're used to, which I have been able to no kidding roll into a tube and still wear with no ironing.

Name brand luggage is a rip-off.
I've had Samsonite, Delsey and Tumi last a half dozen trips and High Sierra from TJ Maxx last 3 dozen with multiple international stops.
Luggage has basically become disposable. Prioritize functionality over durability.

Suitcase? Or a ruck sack?
Name brand or not I have the Travelpro Crew Versipack max carry on. It’s bigger than a standard carry on upright and I can pack a week with no problem. They have organizers you can zip out and change to fit your plans. If you watch sales at Macys and use Rakuten you can easily get this in your price range.

We bought two. One is good. The other tore at the top on first trip.

We talking dress or casual shirts?
Brands? Charles Tyrwhitt? Or?

I have several Osprey backpacks and love them. I've lately been using the Osprey Transporter bag. Seriously, with compression cubes, you could easily even use this for 5 day trips and pack some nice shirts/slacks.
I also use the Motherlode, but it's the rolling version. My go to bag and while not a backpack, it's easy to manage along with that Transporter.
Note: Just saw they have a backpack version: LINK

I second the Osprey Transporter bag. I have the 40L duffel. Well made and doubles as a backpack. Just the right size for a carry-on. Skipping the checked luggage and using it to pack a week's worth of clothes for a trip to St. John next week.

If you haven’t had a bag for travel before I would suggest buying something big and cheap first. Use it a little while and then decide what your must haves are vs. stuff that you can live without. Then start searching from there. It will be much better than spending $200 on a bag that you realize doesn’t fit your needs and you hate.
