Was thinking of taking the family on a trip in February Mardi Gras week. We have never been out of country nor have a passport. I have heard great things about all inclusive places and not having to worry about stuff. Are there good ones in the continental US?

There are some in Arizona and in the Florida Keys but not nearly as many as in the Caribbean. Some are adult only so that won’t work with your family trip. I’m guessing because of the lack of cheap labor but they are usually very expensive in the US. You’ll likely save some money by staying somewhere cheaper and just paying for meals/activities.

Thanks for the advice. If they are much more expensive, maybe we can go out of country. Wife is worried about Covid though.

Check out some other threads but you can find some pretty cheap flights to the Caribbean and Mexico right now that could get you to an all inclusive in the time it would take to get to one here in the states. Just double check to make sure the resort hasn’t been recently effected by the hurricane or are on Covid lockdown.

Family includes kids?
All inclusive loses its value on children. They tend to eat less and no alcohol.

you could probably get a cheaper all inclusive to cancun than in states. I heard of one in the keys but I haven't heard any feedback.
I'm not sure how it is now since covid but United had a direct flight from New Orleans to Cancun, so easy and in 1 to 1 1/2 hours you were in Cancun. Good Luck

Well...get a passport.

Start easy and go to Cancun or the Dominican Republic. Lots of good all inclusives.

FYI All inclusives aren't really the wife and I's thing but she saw a last minute deal to DR recently at a very high end resort and we decided to do it to get away and relax for a few days.

There are deals to be had for sure, at some REALLY REALLY nice resorts, because they are all hurting bad.

A lot of big resorts can offer an all inclusive package if that’s what you want to do. Check out the Hyatt Hill country resort in central Texas. I believe Marriott has one called lost Pines. There is a ton of cool things to do at those resorts.

I’m currently at the “All inclusive” Ventana Big Sur. Very nice place but it’s over $2000 per night and doesn’t include alcohol.

The reason there aren’t any in the US is the employee cost. All the Caribbean and Mexican all inclusives pay staff like $5 a day. That’s the key to making the model work.
