Anyone here move to Costa Rica?

Got about 3 years before I retire and the wife works for a company with a heavy Costa Rican presence.
Apparently the cost of living is 30% less than the US so we're considering making the move.
Anyone do the same?

Would consider it and have looked around. It really ends up not as cheap as youd think given how popular it has become. If you can swing it, do it. On my list probably 10 years out.

I think the first $100K of retirement income isn’t taxed IIRC. Have a good friend planning to do this. She and her hubby bought a beautiful place a couple of years ago they are renting through VRBO/AirBnB until they retire.

I spent 4 months there in 2021 and know a lot of expats. Besides the tax breaks, it’s really not as cheap as people think. I may retire there, but not because it’s cheap.

I’m from Costa Rica and I heard a lot of Americans are going to Panama and Nicaragua now because it’s way cheaper than Costa Rica. Taxes are real high there.

I lived there for a time and there are a ton of expats.
The taxes are really high, but the post regarding first retirement income is correct. If you take advantage of land purchase write offs now, you can leverage later.
Land, food, insurance, labor (I.e. AC repairman) are all cheaper. Vehicles, luxury items (I.e. iPhone) are much more expensive than the States.

What areas would you, or anyone really, recommend?

Wifes uncle lives here. We visit regularly, but it's really not cheaper. Love Coco though.

I was surprised how expensive everything was when I went in February.
Enjoyed Necoya Peninsula. Not sure I'd move there, but would be cool to know somebody who did. Perfect place to spend a week or a month.
