Thinking about a March trip...staying in Latin Quarter. I have not been in 20 years....any feedback on recent trip?

We went twice in 2019 and stayed in the 6th which is right next to the Latin Quarter. We had an excellent dinner at Hebe’ , a gourmet bistro in the Latin Quarter.

I was there over Mardi Gras this year. Stayed a couple blocks from Eiffel Tower.
It’s an amazing city. Early March seems to be a good time to go. Not too crowded with tourists.
Nothing too crazy going on.

Just got back this past Sunday from a short 4-day trip.
It was great, crowded as ever around the tourist areas. The city seems to have less of the big-city issues that a lot of other big cities are suffering in the wake of COVID (e.g., while you will see some homeless, it's nothing like NYC).
English seems to be more widely used than I noticed on past trips. By that I mean while many/most Parisians have been fine speaking English on past trips, on this trip it seemed like they would automatically switch to English when they noticed that I was American, even though I can manage basic tourist French.
Let me know if you have any specific questions. This was a spur of the moment trip for me, and a little less well planned than I would have liked.

Not to hijack the thread but wife and I are going at the end of April what area should we be looking to get hotel at?

My two favorite arrondosiments to stay in are the 1st and the 6th. The 1st if you want a bigger, more luxurious hotel and the 6th (near the St. Germain/ rue de Buci neighborhoods) if you want a more casual, neighborhood feel.

Sitting here after a LONG day walking around typing from my AirBnB on the Ile de citi looking out at the Seine.
Did Eiffel Tower and Military Museum and walking around a bunch. First trip, first day really, here in Paris. really great. busy but not super crowded.

What neighborhood do you want to be in?

Here now. Having a great time. We aren't so much into tourist attractions, so we've been spending our time eating, drinking and walking. Went to a pub on the border of 1st and 2nd Arr for the game last night. It was a lot of fun.

Stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson in the 6th. Very cool area, and also near the Latin Quarter.

This thread was extremely helpful, especially Fun Bunch's list.
From another thread we did two things that were prob our favorite:
Secrets Food Tour in Montemarte
Bistro des Augustins - hole in the wall au gratin place near Notre Dame.
Great trip.

One of my favorites in the 1st is Chez Monsieur near Le Madeline Church. Traditional French bistro with delicious food and a nice atmosphere.

Was just there. Did an overall trip report.

Paris only, some thoughts:
Had a great time, but not really a big city kind of person. But it didn't feel all that crowded.
Walked a ton. Over to the Arc de Triomphe. Later strolled down the Champs-Élysées to take in all the shops. Got around easily with Uber otherwise. We didn't take the Metro, but it was highly recommended and much cheaper.
The La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre is a must see.
We regret not being able to go to the Musée d'Orsay as it was closed on the day we were there.
Best Museums

I went in April and had a blast. Stayed at the Pullman near the Eiffel Tower. Great view every night. There is so much to do. Montmarte was a blast. Versailles was excellent and could spend multiple days there. They have an option on the grounds to rent a golf cart and drive around. Highly recommend. Did the river dinner cruise and it was great. Did all the tourist crap and had the time of my life.

How was the weather for you in April?

Cold every day and it rained one of the days we were there. But you could walk around the entire day and not break a sweat, which was great.

Mais ouais . Stayed in the Latin Quarter myself. Was a great choice. Depending on age and how many dependents will be with you, my review would be Latin quarter or St. Germaine for a young bachelor or young couple with no kids. Lotta cool dives and the less formal places are about.
Since you haven’t been in 20 years, I can’t speak to if it’s changed as I’ve only been this once. I will say it wasn’t as filthy as people make it out to be and also we felt safe 100% of the time.
