would love to visit one day. Some beautiful natural beauty in that country.

A friend was recently in Pune for work, said everything was super cheap. 40 minute Uber ride something like $6.80. JW Marriott that would be $500/night here was $100.

We spent 5 weeks in India in 2010. On the taxi ride from Bombay Airport to Colaba we said, "Either we fly back now or jump in the river and swim with all these people." If you just jump in and accept what is there you will be rewarded. It's a mirror, a chance to look at yourself as you react to their reality. I didn't find it overwhelming, only challenging.

It's true. Nice hotels are cheap there, besides perhaps the Oberoi hotels. I stayed in nice Trident hotels for about $150 a night or something like that.
Park Hyatt hotels in India are Category 1 for award redemptions

I enjoyed India.
-Don’t try to drive, it’s a disaster. Make sure you have a reliable car service.
-Not every place has toilet paper
-They have “brown outs” for power, is standard
-They disinfect the plane prior to landing
-they make you take out every single piece of electronic when leaving (I closing chargers)
-They don’t let you take cash from the country
-their version of spicy is wayyyy hotter than our version of spicy
-not as many people speak English as you might expect
I used to fly to BLR/Dabaspet

My wife went a few years ago and has to go back at the first of the year for a short visit. She said it is very overwhelming. When she went the hotel they stayed in was supposedly the best, they had guards around the hotel at all times. She took a lot of portein bars to eat. She said she tried to stay away from any meat and mostly ate bread, except that the hotel had a pretty good breakfast. She said the last night they took them to some restaurant and served some chicken dish, she said the guys she was with ate it up, she said she had never seen a chicken bone look like that....looked like the hind quarter of a cat! She was fine, but the next day the guys were sick as a dog on the flight back and ended up in the hospital when they got back. Be careful!
