Also if you like trails try walking the Buffalo Bayou hike and bike trail downtown. It forks off down Allen parkway or through the heights.
Under the Franklin St bridge is the ol’ Donnellen crypt remains. When expending the bridge the city was unsure of who owned the land so built the bridge around the crypt. A small opening (bricked up) can still be seen.
Also post civil war is where soldiers dumped all their ammunition. Hundreds of thousands of cannon balls, bullets, armory, etc. Killed random people stumbling across it over time including the Donnellans. They dredged the river there in the 60s and recovered 100s more live ammunition.
Anyway, good place to walk and poke around a bit. Also good trail for an afternoon run.

Also if you like good BBQ. Truth BBQ west of downtown is the best I’ve ever had and I live around Austin.

MFAH is fantastic with three buildings of art.
Museum of Natural Science is also fantastic
Menil is free - and while smaller it's a nice setting - also has Rothko Chapel
Bayou Bend and Rienzi are historic homes with grounds that have been turned into museums. Nice when the weather is great.
Lone Star flight museums at Ellington Airport is really nice if you're into aviation

MFAH and Holocaust Museum I can recommend.
The zoo and the aquarium are sad, compared to the Audubon Zoo and Aquarium.
