I have never taken one unless you count my year long cruise in the Persian Gulf.

I am booking an Alaskan cruise for my two sisters, my mom and myself. My mom wants to try to see some Killer Whales so we are going mid may.

- I need two cabins one with a balcony and the other can be interior but close by
- 7 nights
-prefer a higher level

On booking sites I can book the three of them in a balcony room and the third passenger is free (except taxes)

Is a travel agent my best bet to try to arrange this?

Might could see the aurora that time of year as well.

Do a whale watching tour out of Juneau.

Not sure what your best option is for the questions you have, depends on the line. Have you called the reservations office yet?

That would be a double bonus as I failed to see them in Iceland and she wants to see them too, just figured it was too late in the year for the NL.

I will check the tours out of Juneau, thanks for the tip!

Calling the cruise line will probably be my first step if nobody has other suggestions.

I did an Alaskan cruise many years ago. It's one I'd repeat. The only other cruise I would consider is a river cruise in Europe.

That's what I hear from everyone. I prefer destination trips but this is for my mother so it's all about her.

We took a very nice whale watching excursion in Juneau. It was the one that circled Shelter Island. The scenery was beautiful and we saw plenty whales.

Nah, you may have to be up between midnight and two, but we had some good spring shows this year.

Whale activity has been increasing, it's amazing compared to even 20 years ago. I see them from work (Auke Bay) often

First, call the cruise line itself for the cruise you are looking at and get a quote.
Then, look at crucon.com. The price of the cruise will be the same but they throw in extra things like pre-paid gratuities or onboard credit, depending on what sale they are having at the time.
Finally, go to Costcotravel.com and see what they offer for this cruise. They almost always offer “costco cash,” sometimes significant amounts, for their travel deals. We are staying at Portofino at universal this Christmas at a price $500 cheaper than the universal website and with $300 “costco cash” on a package I just booked through them. Plus, when you put it on your costco credit card, you get either 2 or 3 percent back as well.

I always use my cousin who is a travel agent. She has great ideas. Lots of stuff I wouldn't have thought of. I've been on 11 cruises now. Still haven't been to Alaska. I always think of cruising as sun and bikinis. That's just me. Travel agents don't cost anything. At least mine doesn't.

I suggest a whale watching tour out of Juneau as well. Most cruises spend a very long time in Juneau, on my first Alaskan cruise we were able to do a catamaran to the glacier and then an evening whale watching tour. Both were incredible.

If you feel comfortable then book the cruise on your own unless you can get a better deal through a travel agency. I used a big online agency and transferred my booking to them and they gave me almost $400 OBC for letting them take it over. If they don't offer you good OBC or some kind of perk worth a decent amount then DO NOT do business with them. You will be throwing away your money.

Thanks for all the replies I will try the cruise line directly, an agent, and the other suggestion. The key is two cabins close together.

It's usually easy to get cabins next to each other.

Yeah, with the balcony cabin I am not paying the single person price for another balcony cabin, it's like $3k if you do. I want the balcony cabin up high so my mom can sit out there and if there are whales she has a better view of them, I just want a 2nd one for me that is close by and not that price.

Take the inside stateroom across the hall from her.

This would be perfect, but in my search on expedia none were available. For a normal cruise booking it would be easy but I have some specific requirements that are hard to do through online booking.

Stop with Expedia. Call the cruise line and explain your situation. Damn son. Get past this Expedia middle man thing and deal directly.

If you have specific needs it's all the more reason to talk to the cruise line.

I am done with them, did you not see my thread? I will used my points to book my air to Curacao in July and that's it.

They are the ones that prompted me to ask about this, I spent 5 hours on the phone with the frikkers last Friday and with gold+ I couldn't even get a manager on the line. They can suck a penis.

SIDE NOTE

Would my serial downvoter on here please stand up and be a man? I am guessing not keyboard cowboy, downvote away.

My wife has used vacations to go a few times to book cruises. They are usually somewhat knowledgeable and are able to offer some onboard credit for booking thru them.

Alaska is awesome, my favorite cruise out of the 5 I’ve taken.
