Anna Maria Island recsPosted by Palmetto08 on 1/7/21 at 3:04 pm

Have any of you spent time on Anna Maria Island? Looks like a nice laid back island.
Bar and restaurant recs? Recommended kids activities and other things to see and do in the area?
Going in mid February. Thanks!

Take short drives to Fort De Soto and take the ferry to the island there that used to be a small city
Also take a trip to Tampa and eat Cuban at La Teresita and Columbia in Ybor City

We routinely rent a house an anna maria island. Technically holmes beach. Area we rent is around the ugly grouper and hurricane hanks. A lot within walking distance and a great beach. Really like the area for a family vacation as there is plenty to do and very walkable. Sometimes we rent golf cart to trek down towards manatee ave.

Go to "Eat Here" and Beach Bistro for dinner. Best food on the island. The Sand Bar is a lunch/drinking staple for AMI. We love to get away to AMI, its like a vacation day for us but with only a 45 min drive!

Skinny Burger is a good spot for lunch to grab a beer and one of the better burgers you will ever have. Beer is poured in a frosted mug. It is cash only, but it's a staple on the island. The area around Bridge Street is a good for bar hopping. The new Daquiri Deck has a great rooftop bar.
Off the island, but short drive into downtown Bradenton is a good place called O'Bricks Irish Pub and Martini Bar, and there are several other places nearby that are worth a stop. Pier 22 for upscale dining right on the river, and on the other side is Riverhouse Restaurant.
On down in Longboat Key is one of the better restaurant experiences I have had in a long time called Euphemia Haye. You will want to get to reservations.

Lots of good recommendations so far for on the island. Keep in mind that weekend traffic is bad getting on/off the island.
The downtown Bradenton suggestions are good too.
The Columbia is still great and there is the aquarium if you want to go to Ybor City. The area around it is a disappointing Bourbon Street knockoff. Just bars & homeless. Not where I'd take kids.
I'm surprised no one has suggested downtown St Pete for a day trip. Dali museum, Chihuly museum, the new pier, lots of restaurants & bars in a family friendly environment. Moon Under Water for British & curry. Cassis for nice but not overdone.
Fort Desoto is cool. I think they are still doing see-through kayaking and they might be doing these at AMI too.
Reserved tickets required for a lot of the activities now.
*Ellenton outlets if the weather sucks and you want to kill a few hours.
