Going to NYC this year Thanksgiving week. Do not fly a lot so my question is there a better time then not to buy tickets that are cheaper?

You can monitor prices and they may come down - it’s kind of a crapshoot.

But the fact that you’re trying to go to New York during thanksgiving doesn’t bode well for flight prices. You’re picking one of the more popular weeks of the year to travel there so flight prices will naturally be higher.

It doesn't really matter when you buy. From Jackson, your prices around the third and fourth week of November this year vary between $258 and $708, depending on which day you leave.

Buy the tickets you want now, schedule time off, etc., since we're six months out. Matrix Airfair Search

Include Newark airport as an option. Horrible airport but the train runs from there right into Penn Station.

Whatever you do stay away from the budget airlines, Frontier, Jet Blue, Spirit I took Frontire to Orlando and they will Nickel and dime you. I Went again to Disney Orlando and took Southwest, they do not charge for luggage, Its was pretty nice yet that's my opinion. I would use Southwest again

Cheapest and easiest flight is the direct from Msy to Newark, NJ then take the NJ train to Madison Square garden/Penn Station.

Just because they nickel and dime you doesn't mean you should stay away from them. Just use common sense and compare the cost difference between other airlines.

I'm in the travel business.
You are picking the absolute worst time for pricing to go to NYC.

Prices on higher on flights BUT the hotels are insane. Anytime from Mid Nov to Jan 2 are insane.
