The couple pictures I looked at quickly of hegben lake looked amazing
There is plenty of amazing scenery to go around, no matter where you are.
Bozeman...Gallatin/Big Sky...Yellowstone...Grand Tetons...Jackson....
It's all absolutely beautiful. Don't worry about trying to find the "best scenery"

Pretty much agreed with UGATiger26. I don't mean u SHOULD stay in the car- it just seemed from your list you're not interested in doing much hiking. There are tons of short hikes to see various features but u will be required to park in restricted areas and those lots fill early at that time of year and so u will be moving along the park roads trying to find parking places or circling waiting for someone to pull out. It can make for a long day. If you're willing to put up with that, go for it- it's an amazing place. Think about what u would have thought 170 years ago coming across some of those sights. U can get nights in the 30's and days in the 80's in August and snow anytime but more likely towards Labor day.

You'll have plenty of parking for Old Faithful ama the Falls and Canyon of the Yellowstone. Wouldn't miss those

Don't let your car get below half a tank. Keep a roll of toilet paper/wipes/hand sanitizer in your car. There are lots of hours-long stretches with no services.
Eastern and central Wyoming is hours of sagebrush and then 20-30 minutes of breathtaking beauty, but the western area has more balance. I haven't been to Jackson, but I have been to Cody, which has a fantastic museum.
Bozeman is cool.

This thread has been so helpful. I'm kind of making the skeleton of an itinerary and adding/removing things based on feedback here its' all been really helpful. A couple other questions:
-I was mistaken earlier and my wife DOES want to go fly fishing, despite never having mentioned that before in our lives. Still learning new stuff after this much time lol. When in Rome I suppose. I've done some research and there are dozens of places that offer the standard "wade into a stream" beginner level guided experience with everything included for a half day and they are all consistent in pricing. Question is- for those that have done an organized thing like this how was your experience and is there a particular company you'd recommend?
-Likewise we want to do horseback riding. There are, again, dozens of companies that do this and with the scenery of the area I imagine I can't really go wrong with any of them, but would like to hear feedback from those that have done it
-We want to eat some "exotic" meats. I've had Bison before but from my recollection neither one of us has eaten any other kind of meat that's outside the norm. Are there any recommended or popular places that serve any different kind of meats?
-Probably should have asked this from the start but are there any specific hotels or cabins you've stayed at that you'd recommend? After doing some talking about it last night I get the feel that we want less "ritzy spa" type of deal and more "authentic with scenic views" kinda place. She watched Yellowstone last year so I think that kind of motif is still in her head ha.

Depends on which part of the trip you want to do it.
In paradise valley along the yellowstone river I would call Broken oar outfitters, Lance is awesome I have fished with him quite a few times. You can do a half/full day float through paradise valley with him, or do a walk/wade in dupuy's spring creek or even in Yellowstone, but that would likely need to be a full day.
If you want to wait until you are in jackson I have used western river anglers. I liked Cymon with them.
In Idaho use worldcast anglers, I have used Heather munn with them and she was great.

This is great info and exactly what I was looking for! We don't have any inkling of when or where we'd want it to be, just something to do at some point.
