2nd Boston Trip - Paging Abitafan08
Heading to Boston again in a few weeks. This will be my second time going, thanks to work. Last time I used the Boston Trip thread and it was spot on. Great info.

I stay at the Revere near the commons and have about 3 dinners/nights free, 2 mornings and maybe 1 lunch if I am lucky. The rest of the time I am stuck at the convention center

Last trip we used your recommendations and went to Neptunes, Yvonnes and Davios Steaks for dinner. (Loved neptunes but REALLY loved the food and vibe at Yvonnes). We did the Friendly toast for breakfast twice and Mike and Pattys for lunch. Carrie Nation, Cheers Bar and Fenway park bar for drinks.

I am having a hard time not wanting to go back to some of those, because they were so good, but seeing where else yall would point me based on what I have already tried. Thinking about Wink+Nod then to B&G Oysters one night? We walked to every place mentioned above, so don't mind going about 20-40min walk from the hotel. Is the Cambridge area worth checking out?

If you enjoyed Yvonne's (and I don't know why one wouldn't), check out Mariel. It opened maybe 5-6 months ago and is from the same owner of Yvonne's. Also a really cool vibe and great food/drinks. I work next door so we go after work sometimes for drinks.

You'll be very close to Saltie Girl, which I highly recommend for dinner. You can grab a drink at Met Bar while you wait for a table, because they don't take reservations and it's a small restauarant.

B&G is a good choice, as is Eastern Standard in the Fenway area.

If you just need a quick lunch and are at the Hynes Convention Center, you can very quickly walk to the Prudential Center and grab a bite at Eataly.

There's a lot of great restaurants/bars in Cambridge. Certainly not anywhere you'd want to walk to from the Revere Hotel, but an easy T or Uber ride. Just depends on what you're looking for.

If you are looking for a nice meal one night, try to get a reservation at Table Season to Taste. It's in Cambridge and my favorite restaurant in the city. Though I'm admittedly bias because my friend is the executive chef.

Haha thank you for again for the recommendations. I will definitely add those to the list.

Any steak favorites, doesn't have to be a steak house, but more carnivorous offerings? I think by the end of the trip last time we were outdone with seafood and that is why we ended up at Davios next to the hotel.

Is cambridge the kind of area you can just walk around, wander and pop in and out of bars? That is kind of what we like to do. Guess it depends on how cold it is that week too.

I'm not a big steakhouse guy, but your hotel is right next to Grille 23 and is a very popular steakhouse. I've had the steak once at Mariel and it was fantastic (but it's not a steakhouse)

Also, for a true hole in the wall bar, walk into Bukowski's one night and grab a beer (also near the Revere Hotel)

Cambridge is pretty spread out, but the concentrated areas are very walkable. They still have the same layout from way back when, so all of the "squares" are very walkable with lots of bars and restaurants, then it's very residential in between. You could walk around Union Square and Harvard Square for sure.

I should also warn you that if you're coming in a few weeks, it could still be pretty cold.

Abita- can I get your email address ? I’d like recommendations on a driving itinerary (fly into Boston, rent a car, drive around New England for 7 days in the fall).

Abitfan08, if you don’t mind would you post the itinerary on the TB also. That’s a bucket list trip for us also.

That’s a good idea. I should add a day/short distance trip piece to the main thread.

First, congrats to her. Great school.

Honestly, you’d have to give me an idea of what you/she considers affordable. Boston housing is pretty insane. Northeastern is near Roxbury - not exactly an area you want to be living in, but it’s cheaper. And I don’t really consider it “unsafe” but it’s certainly one of the few remaining areas yet to be gentrified.

When my wife and I moved up here it definitely took some getting used to when it came to housing costs. If you are in a position to help her buy a home, you’d be better off - even after only 5 years you’d turn a profit.

She’s going to have to find roommateS.

But really, you may find something with only one roommate at that cost. Maybe. But it wouldn’t be a very nice place and it definitely wouldn’t be in a desirable area.

Just being honest, 0% chance she finds a place without a roommate in that price range. It just doesn’t exist.

Maybe northeastern offers student housing for grad students?
