I booked our flights 2 days ago to SLC for Mardi Gras. I'm looking at staying at Deer Valley. Anyone ever stay at The Lodges at Deer Valley? If so, how was it? Also, any recs on places to stay in PC or Deer Valley are appreciated.
*We went to PC for Mardi Gras 2016 but I can't remember much about it at all.

I stayed at the St Regis Deer Valley when I went and it was awesome. That's the only place I've stayed where they set your skis pointing at the slope so you click in and go to start the day. It's as ski in/out as it gets.
For Park City, I would stay downtown. We stayed in a nice VRBO near the Pay Day and Cresent lifts. You can walk to those and then take the downtown lift in for lunch or ski apres and the walk back isnt too bad.
Deer Valley was quieter than PC, but I otherwise prefer PC.

When is the best time to buy flights for Mardi Gras? Just looked at southwest and flights that week are some of the more expensive southwest flights I’ve seen in a long time.

I'm not an expert on airline pricing, but I would be surprised if they go down much before then. It's peak season and I'm sure lots of other people have the same idea.

I booked Christmas flights from Seattle to Charlotte for $600 roundtrip nonstop on American. If I booked now, it's be $1,000. I don't see prices going down much over holidays going forward especially given gas prices. If you see a good price, book it. Look up one-way tickets if you can, browse different airlines as well (ie fly up on southwest, back on American)

Yup, agree with you here

Ski goggle advice needed. I wear glasses. Clear focus with goggles is usually a problem.

Heavenly got it's first big dump of snow yesterday. 2 feet in a day.

Actually thinking the alps this year. Maybe Chamonix, maybe St. Moritz, maybe Zermatt, maybe Kitzbuhel - anyone have any experience? Kind of flying blind, but it’s on my bucket list. Done most of the US resorts, typically ski JH and Telluride if I have my druthers.
I've done Austria 3 times. Schaldming/Rohrmoos, maybe a 3 hour drive from Munich. It's actually much less expensive than Colorado. Lift tickets maybe $50-$60 a day for a 5 or 6 day pass. You can get a wonderful apartment within a very short walking distance for maybe $120 a day in mid to late January. I've stayed here twice. And you can fly Delta from Nashville to Munich for only $625 in late January.
Landhaus Steiner
Amazing food. Great scenery. Several fast 6 person lifts and some gondolas...you never wait long, if at all, for a lift.
The ski pass also includes skiing the Dachstein Glacier, which is pretty cool.
Schladming/Rohrmoos.

I can't imagine Switzerland being any better, and it would certainly be more expensive. I have skied Keystone, Copper Mountain, and Park City. I'll take Austria over all those any time...not just for the skiing, but for the whole experience.
I'm thinking of going back in January, but would like to try the Alta Badia area of Italy.
When are you planning to go?

Anyone ever ski Italy?
As I just mentioned above, I've done Austria 3 times. I would go back to where I've been, but I want to try something different. Someone last weekend recommended the Alta Badia area.
I'm thinking this hotel in late January. About $125 a night, ski in-ski out to the lift in the photo.
Hotel Frohsinn
I'm a comfortable intermediate skier. Not a daredevil, and I tend to stay off the black slopes.
Anyone know what the snow and crowds are like at that time?
If you've never skied Austria, you'd be surprised how inexpensive it is compared to Colorado and Utah.
Thanks in advance.

I have not done Italy, but I also have skied Austria (St Anton). Japan and then France are next up for my international ski trips I think.

Looks like we're headed to Park City with some family for Thanksgiving and this will be my first ski trip ever. I borrowed alot of gear from a buddy who's the same size and my wife has pants, jacket with liner, and a helmet. Daughter was able to borrow a jacket.
I am looking for and amazon or online suggestions on gloves for both of them and ski pants for my daughter (5'0", lean athletic build, probably XS womens or 14 kids). Definitely don't want to break the bank because my daughter is still growing.

Not going to be a terrible time to learn, but Thanksgiving in Park City is pretty damn early so once you become proficient at skiing, you're going to want to go closer to peak season. All there's gonna be is a few easy groomers open, I'd imagine.

We skiied for the first time this season yesterday. Only one run open but we still had a blast!

One run? Got me thinking, if I could only ski one run, what would it be. Hard to choose between Riva Ridge and Forever at Vail.

I'll take Stone Creek Chutes at Beaver Creek in mid-thigh powder
