Thursday will be close, but I think you’ll be ok. The forecast for Heavenly has snowfall mainly on Tuesday. They should be able to open the roads by Thursday. I’d say no way if you were coming from CA.

At the SLC airport now. Getting out of Park City this morning was tough but we got lucky. Also people are missing their flights left and right. Glad we scheduled a later flight.

Delta has been a mess operations wise out west over the past week, hope you get out today. Weather has not made it easy to catch up in SLC or SEA plus crew related issues plus covid.

We're flying American. The line checking in was ridiculous. People were missing their flights because they couldn't get checked in fast enough. Getting to SLC this morning was hard because there were no drivers available. I kept trying and finally got one only because he had a cancellation.

Idk if I mentioned, but we’re coming in on Thursday the 6th of January. Roads should be clear by then? Coming down from Reno.

You'll be fine in the shuttle. Worst case I drive you down in my rental, supposed to get in around 6pm Thursday. There's going to be snow on the ground but weather wise it looks most recent model shows it's done snowing around midnight Wednesday going into Thursday.

Ive got lower confidence than usual on the models in that range. Euro and GFS are coming with different solutions and its a really tricky evolution up around Alaska to play out.

You thinking more snow? GFS looks to start to snow on 1/4 down there lasting for several days in the past few runs. Would love for it to snow just before and just after I'm there with no winds like in the video earlier today

Man IDK, the GFS is basically a continuation of the current pattern and the Euro would bring things from the NW across the Rockies.

This is one of those situations where both ways seem equally plausible.

I feel good that Utah and Colorado get a storm in that general range but Tahoe feasts on a GFS and doesnt get much off a NW to SE diving system.

I would like low winds and sunny days (the ski bases around there are doing great already) so whatever brings that would be sweet. I'm making it a goal to ski heavenly on the lightest wind day next thurs-sun, the more options the better

Since this is a ski thread I will say Taos ski valley was nice. The food in Taos was an odd experience.

Ok, depending on what days you will be here could change the situation. Lots and lots of restaurants are closed Sunday-Tuesday. Therefore, everyone is fighting the same seats so the waits are long. Last night we waited at the Gorge for over an hour. Fine, I thought I would grab a drink and wait…..nope. Unless you are sitting at the bar no drinks. Then the restaurant is scheduled to close at 7:30 which is odd given they could stay packed until 10:00. So, anyone they seat that is there after 8:00 is rushed to finish. It was just not a good time. We tried to find breakfast the other morning and it was an hour wait in the 3 places we went into. The quality of the food is ok, I guess. These places could be packed 24/7 right now during the ski season, but for some reason they choose not to.

Not sure. One night we were tired of trying to find a place to eat. So, I went pick up pizza from a local place. The girl told me she has only had Christmas Day off this month.

On another note. I feel someone could make a mint if they opened a legit Cajun restaurant here.

ETA: every restaurant door has several signs about wearing a mask, but I can’t recall one help wanted sign. Definitely nothing like we have back home.

We get in around 2:30pm on Thursday but our shuttle doesn't leave until 4:15, so I'll be able to tell what the ride down to Heavenly looks like.

Anyone have experience getting from Montrose to Telluride? Obviously it is either a shuttle or rental car. However, there are quite a few different shuttle options... does anyone have one they can recommend?
