Why two ropes?

I'm officially 3 for 3 this year. Over a foot of snow at Banff in Jan, Copper Mountain in Feb, and now Deer Valley.

Rappel was too long for as single rope. Two 30m tied together.

I figured as much. Helluva rappel!!

I love DV. Parley's is a less treacherous drive than LCC/BCC, there's less traffic getting to/from, and the mountain has fewer people since they limit the # of skiers each day. Powder days there are fire.

Limit days of skiers?
And still charge ~$150/day pass?
What a crock!
Go to Europe.
French, Austrian, Itialian and Swiss Alps for so much less a day.
Japan too.
I’m headed out there next year (JPN).
I’m tired of getting priced out of US resorts that can’t hold a candle to the rest of the world.
Five day pass in Breck pays for a flight to Japan and more.

How many people they allow on the mountain on a given day
If you don't buy a pass before they exhaust their ticket allotment that day, you can't buy a pass.

Five day pass in Soelden Austria this year was around $60 US/day ~ 257 EU, in total.
Seven gondolas service the mountain. Seven.
US resorts are pricing people out.
Ridiculous.

They aren’t pricing people out of skiing, they are pricing them towards buying a pass (ikon or epic). Many mountain towns have a legitimate gripe with the big passes but they really do make skiing more accessible for your average family.

I have an Ikon, so I had 5 days.
Posted on 3/27/19 at 10:16 am to HollyWoodCole
I paid $650 for the Ikon before tax for ~12 days of skiing this season, and I'm not limited to one resort.

Screws over people like me that go once a year and ski 4-5 days.

If you are going to the mega resorts like Vail, Breck, Aspen etc sure it screws you over for your once a year trip but if you get away from those places and go to the Wolf Creeks, Brighton, Solitude, Copper or even Winter Park, you can ski for considerably less with smaller crowds. Also there are discount sites like Liftopia or going to local Costco’s or gas stations in these areas to get even cheaper lift tickets.
As someone who takes 2-3 trips a year I love the pass wars. Used to have Epic and dropped them several years ago for the RMSP which is now the Ikon. I would suggest pricing out the passes vs buying lift tickets, most of these passes come with discounted buddy tickets too so depending on the size of your family you may only need to buy 2-3 season passes and the rest can use the buddy passes.
Also now is the cheapest time to buy next seasons ski pass so if you know where your family is going go ahead and buy the pass.

I’m not sure what IKON services, but living in LA I get two trips a year (if I can afford it) being single.
I went to Austria and Mt Bachelor (Bend, ORE) this season because day pass pricing in combination with incredibly rugged terrain gave me the most value for my money.
In CO, I’ve ridden Steamboat, Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone, Wolf Creek and Vail.
Prices are sky high in CO for a weekend warrior (other than WC), so if I’m going to pay to play, I’m going to play where the terrain is appropriately valued for the lift price.
Copper over Breckenridge, all day, for the lift value and terrain.
I’ve ridden Mammoth, Big Sky and Jackson Hole multiple times but the prices are getting outrageous for non IKON and EPIC pass holders.
I’d rather ride in the Alps for less, seeing more and challenging my riding to the point of progression.
Bachelor was ~90/day and the terrain is off the charts.

Copper is $180 for a day pass. You can get them for $120-130 if you bundle multiple days together, but that's still not exactly cheap.
