Wyze V3

My apologies if this has been discussed prior, but holy shite, for a $30 camera, it's great. I have a few V2s and it blows it out the water.
For the record, I have cameras capable of 4k recording and capturing license plates. The V3 isn't that good, but it's also not designed for that purpose.
But for for anyone on a budget or just wants to be able to monitor a part of their house/property, this is a fantastic option.

I’d love to get a couple for around the outside of the house but idk how I’d power them.

Any open outlets in your attic?

Just one dead center in the house.

Your best bet is finding cameras with POE then.

I was waiting to buy the V3. Not available when they said, and then looked again yesterday. All the things they were touting on this camera, are now subscription based. Seemed like they killed a bunch of stuff that was originally included in the price of the camera for a monthly service. Bait and switch.

quote:Not true. You do not have to subscribe. The subscription just allows for unlimited recording time to the cloud and human motion recognition. You can still record unlimited without the subscription if you put a sd card in it.

Not true.
I'll probably still buy a couple, but what they promised as capability and what they delivered is different. They pushed capabilities to the subscription plan, and that isn't what they advertised last year.

I ordered a couple to play around with just now. Can you elaborate on
Hold up. Just looked up the subscription and it's $1.25/mo and the camera is ~$30 after tax/shipping. Not sure what you are mad about with any of this pricing scheme. You're getting the camera and close to 7 years of subscription for what one Nest indoor camera cost.

Looks good but the "cooling off" after a 12 second clip sounds bad.

I don't have any input here other than to point out this awesome clip on the cam plus page.
eta just noticed someone running after the car at the last second

Wow, 5 minute cool-off period after 12 seconds of recording unless you have the subscription. It looks like this is unlocked with the subscription though, which in this case I am ok with.

If you use a SD card in it, it will do continuous recording with no cool down

Mine came with an SD card (Home Depot).
The color night vision is nice.

I have 4 of them. For the price of $19.99 they are a good bargain and have a great picture. I don’t do the Cam Plus though. I have them on a set schedule to detect motion and record to the MicroSD card. You have to have AC to power them but for me that was not a problem. I’m a retired electrician so it wasn’t a big deal to run power for them. At that price if they go bad just throw them away and order more

Thread hijack- I bought their robot vacuum and this thing is awesome! I've got a roomba, and the Wyze blows it out of the water. Much better product and a whole lot cheaper.

I’ve got two wyze camera setup, but I’m about to go all in on their eco system. Im ordering the alarm system next month. Probably will buy the thermostat to replace my downstairs old programmable. And when our roomba goes out I’ll be replacing with the wyze vac. Also going to do the doorbell cam

If you can remember, post again in 6 months or a year. I'd be interested if it's got durability. TIA

I don't really get alarm monitoring pricing, is there a big difference in response times or something? "Traditional" companies charge $25-50/mth, simplisafe I think is $15, Ring is like $8/mth, and now Wyze at 5 frickin' dollars?
I'm just noticing that the Wyze alarm doesn't have cellular backup, which Ring and others have. That seems like a big negative.
