All,

i am a google mesh user at home and have limited knowledge of them all.
i was interested in setting up a system for our office. we are not wi-fi dependent, so i don't think a full on commercial grade system is necessary. simply want something for general use and guest meetings.

i've been researching and there is very little out there about mesh systems in office settings.

could you guys give me some opinions on using them for an office?

covering about 7000 feet, sort of rectangular shaped.

Look into Cisco Meraki. Nice stuff. I am sure it's expensive though. It's all cloud based controllers. Config on the fly when it's plugged in. Very nice.

I use Ubiquiti UniFi.

For 7000 square feet, you'll need 4 to 6 UAP-AC-PRO APs and a POE Switch.

We have these at all our office locations. While very useful, the subscription costs are 3-400/unit.

You could setup a seemless wireless network with simple wireless routers throughout your office. I did this for my home, although took some time to get it right, I enjoy it.

Cisco Wireless Controller 2504

Cisco Aironet 1832I - or better (these are on sale now at CDW)

POE Switch for the APs.

Depending on user load 4 to 5 should work for that space.

Ubiquiti UniFi is good, but will not perform like the Aironets with the Controller. Even if you run the UniFi software controller.

I just installed a single ubiquiti unifi mesh AP in my office and it covered the whole area with no speed slowdown. I still have a couple to throw up just to guarantee coverage but it seems to work great.

You can buy a box of 5 for like 4-500.

I use UAP-AC-Pro at home. I think in the office setting the Lite would do fine if you're pinching pennies.
Big difference is MIMO 3X3 vs 2x2. That will likely suffice in a setting where you aren't wifi-dependent like you say.

The above switch is fantastic. But for the last year or two, any 802.3af switch is going to power a ubiquiti AP- so if you have the money to burn or need a managed switch, stick with this one. If not, just nab an unmanaged one- it should do the trick pretty well.

By all means, the Pro and this switch are better and more powerful. You just may not need all they offer.

Another vote for Meraki.

A little pricey but super easy to manage the devices and the licensing.

The licensing is an ongoing cost though.
