Wifi router help

I recently changed my internet plan from 100 mbps to 400 mbps. Also I bought a new wifi router. I got the TP Link AX6000. I was having issues buffering when trying to stream TV and my boy playing Xbox. We have 11 devices on this wifi and for some reason I only get 90-95 mbps through the wifi. If I bypass the wifi router I get 400+ mbps.
What am I doing wrong? Why can’t I get the same download rate once I go from the cable modem to the wifi router? TIA!

You’re never, ever, going to get the same speed over wireless as you do wired. Don’t stress yourself over it.
With that said, you can do better than 100mb/s on a single draw. But, you’ll likely need to bump your channel width from 20MHz to 40MHz. I’m too tired to walk you through that tonight, but just Google it. If you haven’t managed it on your own by tomorrow, I’ll swing back through.

What's your modem situation (rental from ISP?, which model?). Have you plugged into modem to get speed baseline from your gateway?
You need to see what your channel congestion looks like in your area like jshrn(?) replied...you need to see which mhz and channel your wifi is broadcasting...can also try app WiFi SweetSpots to test your connectivity as you walk about your house...

I have an AX4200 Orbi satellite in my house and I also have 400 mbps service from my cable company. For comparison, I get between 200 and 300 mbps over wifi in my 2500 sf 2 story house.
My modem and router are in my detached garage, and I get 350ish mbps down if I'm in the garage, right next to the router. My hardwired speed is a hair over 400 mbps.
Your results could vary, but if your modem/router is in your house, you should see results at least as good as mine.

I changed my channel MHz band with like the op told me and still no change. I get 418mbps when I bypass the wifi router and go straight to my Mac. I only get 90-95 when I go through router.
I called TP link and all the guy told me was to swap from 2.4 to 5 and that would correct my problem. Well it didn’t

I have a lease modem from charter. The modem has been tested and puts out 400+ mbps when not going through router.

I’m seeing 100mbps full duplex for internet connection.
Is that something I can change manually within the wifi router settings?

On what device do you see this info? And on what device(s) are you doing these speedtest(s)?

Seeing this info on wifi router settings. Running speed test both on the wifi router web site and the charter spectrum web site. Getting same results on both

Is your Internet Port Negotiation Speed Setting set to 1000Mbps?

quote:This is what I was getting at. Your bottleneck is not the wifi, it's the physical cable connection between the modem and router. Either the router is set to only 100mbit for some reason, or you possibly have a bad cable.

And this was my problem. It was set to auto! Now I’m getting close to 300 mbps. Thanks Tech board. I sure do appreciate the help.
