Why is the WatchESPN app so behind?

Watching MNF this week and I was a good 55 seconds behind everyone else. Is this common?

I’ve noticed that any content delivered via streaming is a bit behind, not really a big deal except when a friend texts u about a big play while the game is still in a commercial for u

Yes, the lagging is common. Baseball can be a batter or so difference.
The app is great in that it allows us access to so many games, especially in minor sports like college baseball and softball.
BUT, it is buggy as hell. I don't have any problems with any other streaming app, but WatchESPN gets the audio and video out of synch, freezes, and generally screws up an a regular basis.
Come here during LSU baseball and you'll see many complaints about it. Some folks will say it works great for them,, but others with the same internet provider and setup will have issues.

It takes time to process that signal through all the equipment.

I have a question that is kind of related to this. Why is College Gameday on ESPN Radio a good 30 minutes behind the actual TV program? It was like this on both the radio and the ESPN radio app.

Common practice by ESPN and other companies to delay live streaming services

Yeah, this is common and it sucks. I often watch games while chatting with friends in a chat room and when they spoil big plays it’s annoying. But it’s not worth paying for cable over.

Probably the number 1 reason why I haven’t cut the cord.

It would not surprise me one bit to learn that there's some contractual reason that dictates the television feed must get out first.
