Why is Salesforce popular?

Been using it awhile and it seems incredibly user unfriendly.

It took me (19) clicks and a couple of large mouse movements (I counted) to enter a single day off on the calendar.

It’s not popular for the people that have to actually use it. It’s for managers / supervisors to follow

I hate it

It is fully integrated into our Outlook, Teams, Quote and product planning. It is a critical part of how we conduct business and track compensation for sales.

Still, hate it, but it DOES serve purpose.

I love it. If you use it for legit reasons it's top-notch.

My system is completely customized for the workflow of my organization.

I do believe it could be a shitty experience if it's not used efficiently.

This. It's been a while since I've used their CRM, but Salesforce is a platform that can be made to do a lot of things. Shitty apps and deployment make for a shitty user experience, but that can be said for any enterprise platform.

I do consulting for companies with Salesforce quite a bit.

Your user experience is dependent on 2 things:
1) was the business (sales/ops) running the show or IT responsible the implementation? If IT owns it, the users suffer.

2) Was the partner your company used to implement worth a damn? If they went cheap, and most do bc the licenses are expensive, then it's typically a disaster.

I've been on both sides of these implementations, and they can go sideways real quick.

All of this.

There is a reason that Salesforce is a best in class CRM.

ETA Also if you don't get it correctly integrated with your HR and Financial systems....well you're screwed

It’s a decent front end with customization opps and shows well in demos - so it sells as a CRM. But the back end is limited. If you use it as intended (many don’t), you’ll end up being less happy with it.

A lot of companies run Salesforce and integrate it with less pretty but highly robust ERP systems - like S/4 HANA or Oracle. More painful to implement that way but it tends to work well long term.

Either way the implementation partner must know what they are doing. Can’t cheap out on that and have a successful project.

Y'all have any recommendations on alternative CRM systems? We don't sell products, but we are looking for a system to track interactions, contact info and participation in our programs by our partner organizations.

ETA: we usually have 1,200+ interactions a year. Would need 5-8 staff to be able to input data.

Hubspot is generally the go-to for smaller companies. It's limited and not as customizable as SF, but for what most companies need is suffices.

Just know that if you want better reporting and more customization you're going to be very limited.

It is great when you have an adequate development staff to support it. It reminds me of Lotus Notes and SharePoint, sucks out of the box, but can be transformed into anything.
